Just a little reality of my internet connection in the wilds of Normandy using 4G......the map will most likely show me to be in Paris! Google maps does if it uses current location. I have to tell it where I am.

On the other hand, I don't mind giving you my actual location because it is on Google maps if you view our locality. No privacy issues when you are selling a holiday cottage through Airbnb and Booking.com!! You need people to know where you are.

What are the perimeters/distances offered in approximate? There is a dark side to this.
It all depends on your ISP. Its based upon your IP address. For example my ISP is "Century Link". The IP would be bound to the data center serving me. In my case that data center is about 25 miles away, so the Map will think its there. Its going to be programmed to geo check IPs monthly and place the marker accordingly. If I am on vacation/ holiday and the system checks, doing the monthly check, it will assume I am there, until next time it checks. That's how it will work. I am having some problems implementing this along with an opt out, so it might take a while.

The votes indicate that you would like the members map back. If you look under the "Members" tab you can now see the "Members Map". There is no way to opt out as the programming is too hard. Maybe in the future. At this time only VIP members & moderators can see the map.

You will see a new "Statistics" link under the "Resources" tab as well. Its worth checking out. There are no limitations as to who can see the Stats page.

Now I have a clearer understanding, thanks for the overview. My concern was too much accuracy built within the map.
I imagine you know where I am going with this JD.
My motorcycle gets a fair amount of attention. I just don't want any easy access available regarding its location.
But, if offered in the configuration you describe, it sounds secure to me so I got no gripes.
Thanks again for your time and attention to this unique site. ;)

I'm on the map but in the next State over?
Will that change during the next ping?

Ha - just discovered map has me one state over and west of Philadelphia. Is that because my internet provider is Comcast ?

I'm not seeing anything under members for a map. Tried logging in and out. Any suggestions please ?

One way is the way B50.org used to do it. You provided your info if you so desired. A colored pin was placed that denoted the model you had and your location to whatever granularity you provided. Probably a lot of admin work but you could find a volunteer to work it.

Right in my signature here is says Annandale, VA. I clearly don't care who knows I live in Annandale, VA and that's plenty close enough for a map and much better than showing me in Reston, VA where my ISP is, most of the time.

I'm ok with the map but I can't find myself in the UK. A great site and keep up the good work for all Norton owners.

Still not seeing anything. This is a screen shot of the members screen
