I’m hoping somebody could help me with some decent photographs of a mk2a roadster tank and side panels. I’m in the process of converting my Interstate to a Roadster and am about to send the tank and side panels off to the painter, it’s going to be candy apple red with silver pinstripes and logo. So the painter knows what I want I’d like to show him photographs of the tank from both sides and above and both side panels. I’ve looked on Google but I’m not really getting anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Dave , I've got an original paint pair of candy apple red side panels here if you want to borrow em for a match, you would have to pick them up. Let me know if so.

Hi Sam,

a photo of each one would suffice, the painter is familiar with the Commando paint schemes I just want to be sure he gets the right one. However if they may be for sale...

Cheers
Dave

original paint - not a Mk2a, but a late build 1974 Mk2 - hope this helps. let me know if you need additional detail pics.

I haven't got a digi camera to photo them Dave, they are Interstate but I'm not selling them anyway.

R-M Carizzma candy red over silver ground coat, very close to original.

That’s gonna look sweet Dave. My mates gotta dream machine painted candy apple roadster and it’s drop dead gorgeous !

Well, I used to (79-82) ride a candy apple red Suzuki 850 shaftie.
I musta been the coolest dude around, my winning line being "Do you want something red, hot and throbbing between your legs?"

...s'funny though - it never worked!

Hi,
Which Norton’s have the candy apple with the silver pin striping and logo and which had the gold?
My 1974 Commando has the gold accents

Candy Red & Silver was Factory I would suggest the gold pinstripes would be a re paint.

Any recommendations on a reputable painter for Norton factory colors in the US?
Brent gets rave reviews, he does NY Norton work for Kenny.

I attach this as an example of what to avoid. This is a repainted tank. Some 25 years old now so an excellent job - BUT - the swing of the lines upward to the rear is wrong.

The non parallel lines of tank and sidecover have irritated me for two decades.

Not worth fixing but certainly worth getting right in the first place.

This 1974 poster shows the lines on a roadster tank.

Ditto Vintage Vendor. He did a Bonneville for us and the work is outstanding.

for anyone needing paint - if your bike is a daily rider and not some rivet counting show bike, consider this - i had my local auto paint store mix up a single stage enamel that i used for some edge chipping. the paint store used some sort of analyzer on my candy apple red, and IMO, they nailed the color. if you have basic painting skills, try it yourself. pin striping - my riding friend used 3M pin strip tape on his triumph, and cleared over the whole thing. everything he did was with rattle cans, and to be honest, for a daily rider, his bikes look fantastic - and near show quality. if you don't have a compressor and a decent spray gun, go with rattle cans. most any auto paint stores can mix up a couple cans of your color for around $100. i don't know what a custom paint shop would charge, but i'd guess a $1000-plus. personally, i'd go that route first vs paying big money on a rider. just my 2-cents, FWIW.
