Hi Gents
The down pipes i have purchased differ from the originals in the fact that the outlet come straight out, where the originals angle out slightly...
I have looked at several shops selling these so i take it that this is now the standard design..
My headers are also well too long so i plan to start cutting them down tomorrow... but before i do this i need conformation are the straight out design is a direct replacement for the angled design??

Thank you

There were two styles, angled in where they leave the head then later pipes which are straight out.

So will the straight out version fit where the angled were originally fitted???

Yes they "fit". Left side is not a problem, however the right side if not angled can be hit by the kickstart lever. Here's an extreme example of some shitty Chinese pipes compared to OEM.

Look how far out of alignment the silencer was:

My supplier replaced them with a different brand that fit OK but did scrape the kicker.

Many thanks Maylar
The pipe & silencers I purchased are from Armours in the U.K. And at least they are made here.

The angled pipe is original to the 750. They tuck in tighter to follow the frame rails.
The straights ones came on the 850 with the cross over.
To my knowledge, Norton didn't make straight, non crossover head pipes.

Thanks Guys, just wanted to make sure before i start cutting off the excess pipes..... it makes them somewhat difficult to return like this;)

Well somebody(s) does now. I had the same interest and took photos of the downpipes exiting the heads of all the Commandos at
last years AN open day. There was a mix of angled inboard and straight out irrespective of 750 or 850. Either there were no balanced
pipes at the open day or I did not take any photos of balanced pipes

From others as well as my ‘72, the straight out pipes will require an 850 mkIII kick start lever. My original 750 lever would not clear the muffler.

Ah yes, I had to fit a Mk3 kickstart when changed to the straight out down un balanced down pipes
And I think the waisted rubber mounts are a little shorter as well which pulls the silencer in towards the swinging arm?
But then the excess inner bobbin thread needs to be cut shorter to stop the inner end catching the swinging arm?

That's interesting to know as purchasing the kickstart is next on the list to acquire
