My rearset just arrived. My assumption was that the rear peg fit into the collar that attaches to the z-plate.

But it doesn’t, the peg is too big.

I can only think of two options.

1) grind down the peg some until it fits. Doesn’t sound right.

2) there are special pegs that are designed for the rear set and I need to find one.

Anyone have an idea which one it is?

If I understand your issue correctly ...

When I mounted rearsets on my Norton (years ago) I had to drill out my "Z-Plates" for the pegs. The rearsets I sold on ebay years ago. (too uncomfortable for me, but they looked cool.) However, I think I still have the "Z-Plates" set that I drilled the bigger holes in. Cheers, Pat

I’m ok drilling out the z-plate, it’s the actual rear-set.

Take a look at the picture, the peg doesn’t fit in that hole.

Rearset Question

The rearsets would have foot pegs to suit that the pedals pivot on.
They would be shouldered/stepped to captivate the pedal and the peg would come off the end of that pivot that attaches to the Z plate.

Rearset Question

They would have to suit the bore of the pedals,if you know the brand of the rear set then you can do a search for pivots.
If not they need to be machined to suit.

Where is a picture of all the parts you bought.
There is also the possibility, that the mount had a pivot for the pedal but the foot peg was not on that same position.

Here are the original instructions: They call for drilling to 3/8" inch

If you have not drilled already I could swap for post only.
But drilling out to 3/8" would not irreversibly damage the z-plate.

OK I admit to being a Norton pack rat!

I have an old rear peg, I’m going to try and grind it down some.

The guy who sold this to me has the pegs and z plates for sale on eBay. He should have given me the one peg with my rear set.

I don’t feel like spending $200 for one foot rest

Update.

I have a spare set of rear pegs. They are exactly the same. I tried one and it’s too big. I assumed that mans that they are both too big.

Walking one over to the grinder just now, just for fun I it tried the other one and that fits nicely into the hole.

How about that! One must be slightly smaller.

Problem solved and I’m excited!!!

Thanks for the comments!

If you want to then refer back to std. pegs use a nut & bolt where the Z was drilled out

Looks good.
For comparison with an original Dunstall note the passenger foot rest is a bit shorter.
The Dunstall has a male 3/8"-16 thread and the passenger uses a 3/8"-24 bolt.
The boss dimensions on the inside of the hinge are roughly equal, maybe you found the passenger peg bottomed out on the shift linkage when tightening the bolt?
