Bit of an odd one but any thoughts appreciated...

Standard indicator setup on 850 mk2. Engine off and at idle the indicators work fine. When actually riding the left indicators will usually not work (not come on at all). Rights have never been a problem.

Coming to a stop the lefts will usually start working again. Obvious issue is a dodgy connection somewhere so I've jiggled all the wires in the headlamp shell and around the rear light bracket. Stationary (tricky to check riding!) I'm getting low resistance from the indicator housings back to battery.

Jiggling the switch when riding doesn't help either.

Indicators have standard setup with earth through the bodies.

Any words of wisdom?

Is it both left indicators not working? IE front and back

As it's left side only then concentrate on the green/red (GR) wires.
The GR feed from the indicator switch cluster (also RH indicator green/white) goes to the connection area under the fuel tank and not to connectors inside the headlamp shell as it shows on the wiring diagram.

Also try fitting some temporary earth wires to the LH stems to see if that improves things?

Edit: The problem could also be inside the switch cluster (bad wire connection or switch contact)?

Thanks.

Yes, it's front and back indicator and the repeater light not working.

Adding some earth wires was on my list to try, will report back. Also will have the switch apart. I have had a look at the under tank connections, seemed OK.

I have rewired it so it's not 100% to original plan but not far off.

Yes, repeater light works fine for RHS. When LHS works, repeater also works.

OK. You could try connecting the light green/brown (LG/N) of the main harness section to GR (or use a jumper wire between LG/N and GR) which will bypass the handlebar indicator switch.

Edit: The LH indicators should then stay on when the ignition is on but a start-up or brief test could be done to check if it cures the problem. If it does then the fault is likely to be the handlebar switch or switch wiring.

Good thought - will give that a go.

To determine if it is the switch, or after the switch, simply transpose the G/W and G/R wires that come from the handlebar loom (that comes from the switch). Obviously if there is a switch issue, the problem will move to the right hand side. If there is no change, the switch is eliminated.
