Horn access (2019)

What is the easiest way to access it in order to tighten?
From underneath, right side?
Remove the rear fender?

When they say a bike is built around the horn, that is no joke.

Yes, and then all the other things. Must be why my rebuild has taken several months longer than planned

There are advantages to spending hours polishing the chrome on your bike. You can easily determine what has loosened up. It is a constant battle to keep everything tight unless you use blue loctite or lock nuts.

I don't like losing any nuts or bolts, especially original cad-plated ones, so I tend to use a tiny amount of blue loctite.

Easy fix in 30 minutes. Remove the rear wheel. Drop only the front of the rear fender. Tighten inner nuts behind fender. Done!

Just move it, I put mine on twin brackets that I made on the front down tubes, a big old Lucas one, loud and proud.

Was searching the site this morning for exactly this problem. This really was an easy fix. Ran to Lowes and got a 2x4 - 2’ (scrap). Put the bike on the center stand with the 2x4, dropped the rear wheel then the front of the rear fender. And it only took 30 minutes.

Was my lucky day.

How long to smash the horn with a sledge then fix a modern horn up front where it properly belongs with a relay too ?

I think of Poe's story "The Cask of Amontillado" when I think about the horn on a Commando and I can't think any place where you can legally ride one where a horn isn't required; I don't use mine.

If you have the time to think about using the horn, you, probably, have wasted the time you could have better used to avoid the situation that provoked the thought processes leading to pushing the horn button, up to 2 seconds I'd guess.

The only thing a horn is good for is to check battery charge at first kick.
Strong horn, strong battery.
Other than that, I don't use it either. I'm with RC on this, by the time you find it, squeeze it, you could have taken evasive action and escaped.

I had a Fiamm nautilus horn mounted there for 20 years until the 90 degree stamped steel bracket I made sheared.

Then I had a nice 2mm SS bracket made. The front corner of the battery box mount broke off after 2 years.

Now I have a small meep meep horn in the other hole.

I liked the sound of the Fiamm better.

I have the current Andover horn mounted on the front of the battery box, it is LOUD!

Use a lock washer on the horn bolt. Honestly the position is a pain, but it’s completely out of the way. Compared to the pathetic horn on my 2007 Sportster, the Norton’s horn is loud.
