Norton Commando 961 Touring Seat

In a small way similar to a Corbin Gunfighter . I had (Seat Guy) Name of Business modify my seat. Some may not like to look but it delivers the goods for me so far. When I taken a LONG trip I start to get leg cramping after the third or fourth tank. This is more of a problem for me then the dreaded num bum . At any rate If you like riding your bike a long distance and you have discomfort , look into this. I raised my seat height about an inch and that relaxed the bend in my knees and what a difference that made.

Tony,
Really like it - have been looking for something less numbing myself. Also had a look at MxMartin’s post - seat cover ideas wanted. My ache is in the hip area and the choice is lower rearsets (not likely) or higher seat. Now have two ideas to work from.

I had a Buell S1 with a minimalist seat. I found wearing padded cycling shorts beneath my leathers made a big difference on longer journeys!

I have used those type shorts and agree they help. I have two seats for my 961 now. One has the Norton Logo sewn in (factory seat) and the other is the original that came with the bike . This is the one in the picture that I am having modified. I am sending it back for an adjustment too tall in front and need wider in back.

Final revision of this seat , softer foam at the front and slightly lowered.

I see now why some owners are breaking the seat mounts. If you look you will see a metal support bracket holding the captive nuts. The newest seat has only plastic . Not all newer design changes are better , just cheaper .

Do NOT over tighten your seat bolts , they could break the plastic mounts !

I have had 3 seat bases, and all 3 the plastic bars looked like they had been cut out by a 3 year old... terrible design and extremely poor workmanship!

That's a very nice seat. Is that a fabric? What's with the zip tie? Does it stay there and if so, how's the clearance. I hate the mounting design on these.

Tony, I've just noticed your rear spring covers, good idea for those that ride in all weathers.

NIcely done, have just had a variation on the same theme completed. I went without the side seams.
A full days riding a couple of weekends back and what an improvement.

Your seat looks good . I needed to make mine narrow at the front so I can reach ground flat footed. It’s thicker like yours mostly for my knee bend. I had to ease the angle of my knees .

Not fabric , it’s vinyl . The zip tie is holding the captive nuts on only during shipment so they don’t get lost.

Yes the reduced knee bend is a nice benefit. Only my opinion but i think the thicker seats also suit the overall look better than the thin early seats.
