hi all, anybody using the half priced wassel slides in their amal premiers?

I fitted some Wassell anodised slides in my 71 BSA Firebird with 22,000 miles old standard Amals. It's given them a whole new lease of life with a nice smooth action and reliable tickover. Definitely worth the money.

Interesting. Where did you get the Wassell parts? How much $$$?

Before fitting new slides I recommend measuring the bores.
What I found on my (monobloc) carbs was that the bores were not round - meaning that the new, hard anodised slides wouldn't fit.
A bit of judicial "squeezing" (using soft balsa padding) repeatedly in my vice until they were correctly round and voila - the slides fitted perfectly.
Not completely on topic but close enough to be relevant.
Cheers

Makes sense as the bodies wear as well as the stock slides, and it's not going to be perfectly uniform wear.
The slide moves rapidly back and forth with the air flow of the engine, so its always more worn fore and aft than side to side, with greatest wear pattern at front.

When the resleevers do their job they bore the body out to round.
I would guess that some bodies are so worn that squeezing to round isn't going to work.

I think mine were not so much worn but more distorted - probably due to over tightening by someone/sometime.
My guess is mine aren't the only ones to suffer this affliction.
New slides fitted like a glove with very little play.
Cheers
