All they lack is range and that will be forthcoming as r&d continues at a feverish pace. Imagine a bike with 1000 miles of range instead of 100, powered by a pea-sized lump of plutonium in a football-sized reactor.
The torque and acceleration are for real.
Rode a Zero a few years ago, and it was a blast.
Disable the traction control, yank the throttle, and it's wheelie city baby!
But lack of range is their Achilles heel right now.
Without a quantum improvement in battery storage capacity they remain expensive toys.
Running out of juice on the road means calling for a pickup, and then where do you take it to charge???
And it takes several hours to charge.
If I run out of gas in my MK3, I call AAA or AMA, and they send a truck with a gas can, then I'm back on the road and heading for a gas station.
More likely that fuel cell technology will be the real answer.
The companies have to package the fuel cell for motorcycle use.
Then we need hydrogen fuel stations on the roads.
Oh yeah, they have all the soul of a flash light, or a torch for you folks across the pond.
