Yep nice but dim the headlight , my biker chums describe it as a candle flickering,I’ve left mine alone ,however I’m sure one or two peeps on ere have upgraded the actual bulb for greater brightness! So others will chip in I’m sure,& it is a sensible upgrade so might have to do it meself now you’ve brought it up

Mine blew on a track day, cudda been vibration, cudda been heat as I had to gaffer tape up the headlamp (track rules) and was surprised to see it partially melt. Perhaps the tape insulated things too much?

Anyway, it’s dead easy to change. One screw at bottom of headlamp. I took the opportunity to fit a posh brighter job. If mine blows again I’ll fit an LED.

Right,
That makes me sound like a complete numpty (I can change a bulb) so Let me re-phrase!
How many spares should I buy and should I just go for an upgrade?
Where do I find part no? Workshop manual shows how but does not say what.
Thanks
John

They have Heavy Duty versions of the H4 lamp. I am still running the same headlamp bulb since new . More than 10,000 miles.

Like Tony says, H4 is what you’re looking for. If in doubt, just take the old one along to Halfords, they have a rather staggering selection! I got a posh brighter bulb from there, can’t rememeber the name etc but it was about £15, worth it if it lasts... not if it doesn’t...!

Mine lasted 6 months. Put a Philips racing vision in - good for another 6 months.

Is the same filament going bad Low or High ? Maybe not Vibration then . Look at Voltage ? Is the other filament good ? Is your system voltage going beyond 14.4 or 14.5 VDC ?

Tony,
Could be the state of the roads over here atm - potholes, ridges, dips etc, with the stiff Ohlins the bounce is unforgiving so could be a myriad of things.

stiff ohlins? struth my plastic ring on the fork is near the bottom each time i ride and I am not a heavy breaker. Was thinking about some adjustments sometime to stiffen it up, mind you no complaints whatsoever with the handling

.... Compared with my other bikes -perhaps they are too soft (or just cosset my soft arse!)

If it’s handling well and you’re using most of the travel I’d leave it be.
Stiffen it up if you venture onto the track yes, but otherwise, sounds like you got it set up about right for our pseudo off road roads.

Most? I'm using about half or a smidge more and am quite comfy. We have some decent roads here on Long Island though.

Well, my thoughts are that the travel is there to be used!

So, if it’s being used, and the rider is comfortable, and the handling is good, I certainly don’t see the fact that the travel is being used as a reason to adjust anything.

But... I’m certainly no suspension guru !

Is the reflector also plastic ? I cant remember ?

My understanding was that they don’t get hotter unless you increase the wattage.

But by some ‘magic’ they can get 55w/65w bulbs to be brighter.

But, of course, this magic makes them more expensive.

Perhaps someone who knows about such things could enlighten us further (pun intended BTW)?
