I’m re-posting this info to make it easier to find in future. Great tank protector option:

He’s fast, inexpensive and very helpful with design aspects etc.

That looks great, Nigel. The black matches so well, the emblem almost looks painted on. Good job.

As some may recall, my first one of these was a carbon fibre effect. I changed it for black as the carbon effect didn’t quite work well against the black paint. I think it would look good against some other colours though. Just some food for thought...

absolutely. That doesn't go. Maybe on the metallic grey. These Nortons come with just the right amount of Carbon Fiber, plus maybe the rear hugger if one wishes. No need to fake it on the tank. The black looks superb. Gland you didn't even get a gold edge on it.

Yup, sometimes less is more !

Luv the tank pad... luv the alloy tank, I would have one in a heartbeat but same dilemma as you, leave polished or paint it. I would probably want to leave polished but that would necessitate a custom alloy tail piece and air box, hmm.

Nigel, I borrowed this photo from Mr Picazo in the Philippines who posted it on FB. If you went down this route then yours would be even less 'black'

It would indeed Mark!

Trouble is, I’m remembering that I quite like the black look.

Seriously, an alloy tank may well be up for sale soon. Bargain price too...

noooooooo.... why not paint it? You could probably paint it with a smoked translucent black lacquer ? I'd buy it, but I would probably do similar with a white translucent lacquer or a design mix of white and polish.

Trouble is, if I paint it I’ll end up painting it so close to standard that there’d be no point in having it...!

Yeah, but each time you start her up you can gently tap the tank and smile all-knowing :)

I've never had a bike with plastic tank before and I thought the Norton tanks were steel.... it wasn't 'till mine was delivered and I got that dull thud when I tapped the tank, I was honestly gutted.

Sounds like you’re talking yourself into buying my tank!

And you could have a proper Monza cap then too...;)

I still think you should paint part of the tank black and leave some parts polished. Try photochopping it with various parts black just to see what it may look like.

I’ve looked on’t interweb and there is no-one producing these tanks except for Norton, you would probably not have any qualms about having a cheaper steel tank painted- providing it was sealed properly inside of course.

I definitely agree.
