did not get from emgo………..another place here in Mass. U.S. but wont call name...…..
 
Alan , before any coatings , I would make contact with seller and have a conversation .... then if they will not replace with a tank that does hold gas .... I think caswell’s maybe , guessing you need protection from the corn liquor gas ? .... not fun coating an already painted tank , serious patience needed ....

thank gosh I only had primer on it....came back from first short shakedown ride and gas was dripping on hot motor...smoking...was scared it was going to turn into a flamer...…….bought tank last year at mid-point of project....probably too late to get any relief from seller ….C.S... if you get the initials drift...
 
Hard for the sellers to "improve the breed" if they don't hear from customers with problems. And loose gas on a hot motor is almost as big as a problem can get!
If you'd been using it for several years and then it developed a leak, maybe there'd be an issue, but in this case?
IMO, you'd be helping the next customer avoid a potential catastrophe, by reporting back to CS.
 
If you are referring to Commando Specialties I would call them and tell them you are honestly just now getting around to using the tank, I have had good relations with them, they may surprise you and honor it as a return.
 
Got me worried now...I bought my unpainted CS tank from a seller on the classifieds section here. Have not made any progress on finishing it yet other than sourcing a used filler cap, also from classifieds.
A foresee a pressure test on it soon.

FYI, when I first began riding bikes, went to fuel up my first bike/first time...and had some excitement as the pump didn't shut down at near full like it does when fueling a car.

So I sure jumped some distance back as fuel overflowed all down tank onto hot head/exhaust...kicked a cloud of smoke/vapour but no boom. Later learned fuel is actually resistance to igniting in absence of spark. Still, not recommended procedure! I shudder watch young guys fill their bikes while still sat on the seats..
 
if not redkote then what? caswell? had kreme in my triump tank for quite a while but last year bubbled up .I go to local gas station now and get nonethanol in big can
 
tornado...I had about a quart in tank for a couple of weeks no weeps...but when I filled it nearly up..weep appeared..head pressure I say...best put a lot of gas in yours to really test it..

Did you do a pressure test prior? Like with an air pump and checking for leaks with soapy spray and bubbles?

I recall a note from CS mentioning their tank tooling was in house and needed a certain number of tanks to sell to cover the tooling setup....which they had achieved.
 
I too got a new tank from a supplier, and it had a pinhole leak along the front right seam. It was just easier to use Red kote and seal the tank. I’ve used Red Kote before and was satisfied with the results, so I used it again and am still satisfied.
 
no way no how would i use ANY slosh in tank sealer in a new tank. spend the time/money to either have the vendor replace it with one suitable or fix it properly. there is NO permanent tank sealer for the fuel we are forced to use.
