Picking up my 961 tomorrow-It’s back and I’m Smiling

Hi All,

I will be collecting my 961 from the Dealers tomorrow afternoon, I feel like a child at Christmas again, I think, as that was sometime ago.

I’ll post pictures tomorrow once I’m home, the smile fades and my Wife makes me come in doors.

Well engine management light on 15 miles from home. Pulled into lay-by,just in case. Bike stops now dead and shop can’t recover me.....My policy doesn’t kick in until tomorrow, so paying through the nose. Bright side I have a nice wait in a lay-by on A31, still sun shining....

Sorry to hear about your rocky start. This is an enthusiasts bike as you know. Unfortunately it appears you still need to take the rough, with the oh so smooth.

Sorry to hear about your breakdown. This is a brand New bike ? You are in England (Hampshire) this is in your favor Norton should respond quickly !
 
Got recovered just after 7, recovery driver given East bound not West. Called me up himself and we sorted it. He liked the 961, we both laughed, new bike, hour or so out from Dealer and it stops.
I am amused, not angry, just can’t be, until it displayed the engine management light, it was great. Couldn’t fault how it handled, admittedly treating it gently. Still having read stories on issues none were apparent. I am still kind of smiling.
Tomorrow’s another day. I took a picture whilst in the lay-by and when I rolled it in to the garage. I’ll post them tomorrow.

I was travelling nearby this evening on A272 (driving).
My Commando new in March developed issue after 30 miles dealer ( Moto Corsa) sent bike back to the factory, problem resolved and I’ve been enjoying this fantastic summer on an equally fantastic bike. Quality control clearly could be improved at Norton but the bikes are just so engaging, stick with it. Hope it gets sorted quickly!
 
Not a good start. I hope It's a connector or relay that's simply shaken loose but it could have waited a few more miles :(
 
Really hard luck....this is just something worth considering ....one issue I had (albeit after a few thousand miles) was my electrics totally died after stopping for fuel. With the great help of Stuart we got the tank off quickly to check the main fuse...we had a bad connection...problem sorted. When it happened again a week later I replaced the main fuse. On dissecting the fuse holder it was clear some of the rubber insulation had made its way between the 'female' connection causing a poor connection for the fuse. It just needs a very small issue to challenge your day....and make a Norton adventure! Good luck!
 
Dealer has collected the bike, really really apologetic, nice but not of his causing. They had it in the workshop late this afternoon and said it powered up fine, started first time and ran as it did when I collected it. Engine management light stays on, they’ll put it on diagnostics tomorrow morning and hopefully it’s something easy and I can have it back.

Full of highs lows the 961 can be,& someone on here once said that 961 owners are a forgiving bunch to , there was also a great analogy comparing ownership to wild woman as well, like winning the lottery,then loosing the ticket , just think of the end game ,the end result & all being well this weekend Gary on those A roads in Hampshire,every cloud

Welcome to the fold.

Same experience sitting in layby 15 mins after picking up bike last September. Now have 3000 miles on the clock commuting to work and I love every journey on the thing. Can't wait to get on it each morning and arrive at work with the biggest grin. Best thing I ever did.

Just ride the ups and downs and congratulate yourself for not buying a Honda.

So Dealer identified a throttle senor issue as cause for engine management light and this was corrected.
Following check run bike failed to restart once it was up to temperature. They feel they’ve identified a faulty relay. They will test tomorrow and call me.
They had full electrics but would not start I had no electrics after I pulled over Wednesday, is there a correlation with the fact it had been running longer at temperature for me, hence no electrics and some electrics due to the 15 minutest run?
