Hello,

Can we see, or put in it a small wire, in the hole for the descent of oil which has to be in the case of inlet valves Having to remove the valve cover inlet ?

Yes you can push a wire down into the crankcase from the cylinder head to check the oil drain hole,or put some oil in there from a can to see if it drains away or not

I think it is rather tricky / fiddly to wiggle a thin wire down into that hole simply by removing the rocker inspection cover with everything IN PLACE on the bike, but it can be done. The exhaust pocket oil drain holes are even harder to get at; I can't remember whether they are actually under the lip of the valve spring cup?

Thanks Baz,I try to put it some oil because impossible to see the hole not even to find him(it) with a quite small wire.

It is very possible Granpaul, I tried again with a fine wire I did not find the hole.
I put some oil, it comes down(falls), but 4 hours later there remains 4 millimeters, it is normal even with the open straight(right) valve ?

For me the hole is right side when I look the gasket cylinder head.

If you do find the hole from the rocker box, do not expect a wire to fully enter the crankcase. The hole descends into the timing chest, turns 90 degrees toward the timing cover, then drains into the timing chest. A wire will not make the 90 degree turn, but the end will be visible if the timing cover is removed.

I think it was jseng1, in another thread, who reported that when the rocker box was fully flooded with oil, it would drain in about 5 secs.

My memory failed me. It takes 45 secs to drain the rocker box. Sorry for any inconvenience.

What is the reason for checking? Is it smoking bad? Etc if the head is over oiling it can be the rocker spindles up the wrong way

Hello Baz,

I have rebuilt this engine totally of the bottom at the top in 57 000 miles further to the almost complete left disappearance of 2 cams.

From the beginning he smoked especially in slow motion. (Game piston - cylinder 0.12mm and piston Hépolite AE NOS 0.20.
Since it it is stressed, I consume 0.7 liters of oil for 700 miles.

So I wanted verified that the oil came down well from the head but of course it can come also from guides of valves,rings, a problem on the oil pump (new also) etc....

We have to make another run this weekend and later I am going to defuse and to try to find from where it results.

Before redoing him I consumed 0.4 liters for 700 miles (motul 3000 20/50 MA2 JASO T 903 a good oil for motorcycle cooled by air.)

I would hold you the courant when I would have find.

sorry not sure exactly what you mean but loose valve guides ,worn valve guide seals cracks in the head incorrectly fitted rocker spindels will cause smoke especially when you close the throttle , if you want to check this you can disconnect the oil feed to the head and ride the bike,see if the smoke stops ,the head dosent need that much oil i woudnt do more than a few miles like this,others on here may know better

The smoke is only when the engine is hot,no cold.

I take, as for 40 years, all the spares to rebuilt my motor at Andover Norton, only pistons Hépolite AE Come from Only Britisch Austria.

I am going to try to make like that, but next week after the run of this weekend
