'73 Norton Commando

I do not know this person but he lives in my quadrant of Texas Here is what he wrote:
For sale is my 1973 Norton 850 Commando with a clean title. I did a frame off restoration of this bike about 20 years ago and have upgraded it many times over the years. The restoration involved powder coating the frame, triple trees, swingarm and battery box plus rebuilding of all other worn parts. The engine was given a top end rebuild with 20 over pistons. Later I purchased the twin disc front end from Norvil Motorcycles and it is a one finger stopper.

As my knees got iffy I re-engineered a Kenny Dreer style VR-880 electric start using my own starter mount, belt tensioner and ancillary parts. The starter is a Spyke (for a Harley Sportster so common) and has no problems turning over the Commando engine. An almost new Odyssey dry cell battery provides the juice. This has been a reliable starting system and does not use a sprag clutch.

Originally a roadster, I liked the desert scrambler look of the High Rider tank so sourced a steel one. The auxiliary tank on the back gives another 18 to 20 miles and is a bolt on. Other features include the custom-made seat, modified air box (ham can) and digital clocks from Legendary cycles. I kept the speedo and tach cables to keep the classic look but they are not required. Other add-ons are the LED daytime running lights (again a bolt on) and custom primary cover plugs with one having a screened hooded vent (for looks only). These are just screwed on and can be easily replaced with stock if one chooses. The points cover is an authentic Paul Dunstall item.

The bike has brand new Avon Road Rider tires, 19" front and 18" rear. Rims are chrome in very good condition with stainless steel spokes. The slightly burnt orange paint with silver stripe has very minor chips from riding but looks super deep with heavy clear coat. Jason Small of Dallas did the excellent paint job and it has held up extremely well over the years. The engine is stock other than a re-bore and electronic ignition (Tri-spark gen 2) and runs fantastic. The clutch is super light and uses Barnett clutch plates from CNW. Other new parts added last year are the stainless steel mirrors and a new Lockheed/Norton master cylinder (the entire unit). This bike is sold as is with no warranty. I will deliver the bike to the Dallas/Fort Worth or Waco area or it can be seen and test ridden (must have a current moto license and insurance) where I live on the west side of Lake Whitney, TX.
