Got the 850 to the dealership last night for first inspection after rebuild. I took my wheels there to have new tires mounted so the shop guys new what I had. There's an older fella, probably late 50's (sorry guys, I'm young still), that was asking all types of questions when I had the wheels there. I was glad it was him that came to take my bike to the back. He was respectful and listened when I told him the start procedure. It passed without issue, just a note about adding turn signals soon. He really liked the bike and I'm glad he got to do the inspection.

So today I rode to work for the first time, its only about 10 miles, mostly highway. What a blast! It's running great. My co-workers who knew I was rebuilding it were blown away, which definitely felt good.

Just wanted to give a report now that it is officially "done" (yeah right).

Thanks Guys!

Ben

Congratulations on finishing! I hope to be at that point soon and can't wait to hear the motor fire up and come back to life after a hibernation of 30 years on my 73 750 Commando.

It has been a much longer process than I had anticipated with cleaning, painting, replacing, polishing and rebuilding. I began reassembly in January and have been doing it a little at a time in the middle of my living room.

Best of luck with your 850!

HI Ben,

Nothing like a fresh Commando running like it should. :)
Northeast PA...are you near Allentown? I get out there every few months on business...love the countryside and would love to ride my Commando on thsoe roads.

Hi Dave,

Is that a yellow Corvette in your avatar? Have you seen the book titles "All Corvettes are red, all the others are mistakes". Same for Commandos :)

Hi Ben

You should be very proud with what you have done, now go out and enjoy it young man.

Sometimes requests are made in haste...before we look....

On the other hand, and as I posted before, I really like this setup for a Commando...it just screams "I'm fast and UNAPPROACHABLE" just sitting there.

Congrats on your build...you should be very very proud!!!

No, you get right back out there and get some good pics of the electronic clocks, and a description. Pronto, get moving.

I've made a living not listening to others. Pertains here too.

Read (red) the book. You don't have to listen.

Thanks everyone! I sure like it.

illf8ed - Sorry, I need to update my profile. I have recently moved to central PA for employment. Allentown was (and still is I guess) about a 2 hour ride away from me, but I've been through that area a lot. There's a lot of pretty country where I'm at now though.

Diablouph - I can definitely take some pictures and tell you anything you want to know about the electric gauge. Might even be able to get to it this afternoon.

I've got a few leaks to seal up. One is at the primary. The other happened after the bike sat for about 2 weeks and I'm guessing wet sumped and I got a little oil leak at the oil filter. I haven't dug into it yet to see if it was actually the filter or the oil lines at the filter, but it only did it that one time when it sat for longer than normal. Other than that, it seems to be good.

Thanks!
Ben
