Would you buy one again

Hi, I am probably one of the few who are on their second 961, the first being an early 2010 Sport on which I covered 15000 miles, being an early one I felt I was more of an development rider than customer! However the style and ergonomics suite me so now I have a new Mk2 Euro 4 Sport which is just lovely and great to ride, although to get the fuelling right a decat' and straight throughs are necessary.

Hi, Well yes, I must be one of the few who are on their second 961, I bought an early one (2010) and covered 15K miles, not exactly trouble free! I felt more like an development rider than customer at times, however I love the looks, ergonomics and it just suits me and my style of riding. The new one is just lovely to ride and so much improved especially after the decat' etc, it's how they should have been from the beginning!

Hello Britchap , Did you manage to get a fair price for your trade in or outright sale ? I would consider a 2018 California in red white and blue trim . I've already raised my bars by and inch and more would be welcome so the California bars I think would good for me. It will also provide a good mounting point for some wind protection and then I will add some hard side bags. The last thing will be a slightly more padded seat or an air hawk topper. I could of course just buy the parts from Norton and mod my own. Is that IOM by chance in your photo by the Promenade ?

Hi Tony, Yes I got a good price in trade in, and yes that is Laxey front at the Manx!

I finally must say , The only thing that would stop me from buying another one is Norton announcing they are going out of business and parts will no longer be available.

Hi Contours , That was back in 2018 . Things have changed to say the least , but I am still hopeful.

Hey Tony! Yes, I know things have improved and I'm glad for you all. Can't say I miss the stress of wondering might happen next with my particular bike. Hope the guy that bought it from Foothills BMW in Colorado is enjoying it. ;)

My mates say “Why don’t you
get an Adventure bike “ & my reply is

“ I’ve already got one “

Indeed you do. Where is that picture location? Looks a lot like part of Route 66 here in the states.

Bought a 2016 with 53 miles on it. Rode it to a total of 456 miles when it shut off, took 3 months of on again off again conversation and testing to get it running! What do you think! Nobody wants to remap Omex ECU!

Based on the post by Voodoo , Norton may not make the 961. It read “ Goodbye Norton 961 Hello Norton V4SV “

I wouldn’t buy another 961 even if TVS did offer one and fixed all the issues. That’s unless they offered us owners replacement parts. The way it looks since they took over that they have ZERO interest in us.

I strongly believe that they WILL NOT be offering a 961 model at all. If they did, they would be putting more effort into the parts needed to continue them. Besides, they didn’t keep the V4 or the super light. Why would they have anything to do with the 961? Not trying to be negative, just realistic.

The whole 961 issue is a real can of worms for TVS.
They can't sell the same 961 that SG sold, too many problems, and too many service/warranty headaches.
TVS would have to spend time/money redesigning the 961 systems to "fix" them, make them liquid cooled to pass Euro.
Would that new 961 be backwards compatible (for parts) with the old 961?
If not, then why would they stock & sell parts for the older 961?
If Jinlang owns the rights to the 961, can TVS sell a 961, or would they have to buy a license to build/sell a 961?

A much simpler way to build a new Commando:
Just take a Thaiumph 1200 lump, put Norton badges on it and stuff it in the 961 frame.
A few frame mods will be needed, attach a radiator, done.
Ride a lot, enjoy a lot, no starting/idling problems, lump is tried and true, reliable as a cast iron stove.
