WM2 vs. WM3 Rims

It appears that a common upgrade on Commandos is to go from WM2 to WM3 wheel rims. I just replaced my rims with the WM2 size and in the process of gathering lacing information noted that WM3 rims are commonly used. I assume the change allows larger tires to be mounted. What are the pros and cons in making that switch?

Thanks for the info. I Initially tried searching the forum on the subject and didn't get any hits which I thought was weird since the topic seemed ripe for discussion. I tried again and there they were - very strange.
