Hi All, with the nights closing in & the long cold wet days ahead (no smiling please from you guys in the southern hemisphere) what projects are you planning?
  1. For me, its to remove the Don Pender rear set gear linkage. fit a reverse cam plate in the gear box and fit a reverse gear lever... it must be my height but i just cannot get the linkage set the way i want it.
  2. Polish her to within an inch of its life :D
  3. Fit a T160 kick start
  4. Make up & fit a oiling mechanism into the swing arm centre bolt.
  5. re-position the GPS pick up sensor for my Legendary Speedo
  6. More polishing....
  7. Full engine & transmission service
  8. fit a 21tooth front Sprocket & new rear chain
  9. Address that annoying squeaky front (disc brake) on light check braking
to name a few...

The JPN came with rear facing gear lever from the factory. It has a strange feel with the extreme angle, about 45 degrees to the centerline of the frame.

My list so far:
1. Remove oil tank, clean it up and send off to CNW for repair/upgrading. The rear side mounting tab sheared off just before weld area. Doesn't leak but don't like using foam pads everywhere to hold it in place.
2. Pull front wheel to replace bearings with new sealed types.
3. Remove front disc to repaint it.
4. Maybe fit the TriSpark ign i've had sat in its box all year. The Wassell ign is working very well so this would be a not broke "fix".

Try to get my groove back - pretty tired of building Nortons. Once I get some of these Nortons out of here, I'll probably finish some Triumphs that have been waiting - maybe that will take my mind off the 69S MoFo that has driven me crazy for months and still won't quit coming up with new ways to annoy me :)

Or, maybe we can have a vote on whether I should get my foot fixed, hip replaced, or knee fixed over the winter - it's so much fun being old!

My father at 95 said to me " Don't get old ". I said : "What's the alternative option ? " He went quiet . I immediately thought I have to drive my Norton more , not being wreckless of course. And spend more on it. So be it.

To be honest , I have nowhere to work on her this winter except the street out front .
Today in + 4 C. , I fixed the lousy horn connection , installed a fuel line (splitted and then cable tied ) cover , over the slightly rubbing head feed oil line to protect it from any further chafings.
Put a zip tie onto the clutch cable to guide away from chafings again with the instrument console.
All of this with the first snow falling about me , on the street.
Got 2 younger car drivers stopped to comment on how beautiful the Norton was and of course always the tales of Dad's ( plural ) adventures .
It stopped snowing and quickly melted.
Calendar winter is 5 wks. away.
My engine needs no work.
But I want to remove it and drop in the new engine , one I've prepared , ( J.S. stuff to smooth it all out from vibrations. )
Too big a job for the street in winter.
Enjoy.

Will we see a before polishing pic?

Just got my bike back toghther and the swing arm is already leaking. Think the best solution are the later plugs. Fitting an oiling mechanism means it's constantly leaking (because it's not being consumed)

If leaking at one or both ends, snug is up a little more and wipe the drip from time-to-time. If by the cradle and drips once in a while, don't worry about it. It's up in the air whether the excess lube is even needed once the bushings are fully saturated - they surely are by now.

Oiling system, but only used periodically.
Yes, they leak, it's a hoaky design.
Just roll with it, wipe off the drool till it stops.

Drove to the vino store n' back this aft. in + 3 C.
Bike ran great except at the start where I left the choke on a bit too long , so fouled up the right side plug , it cleared up by the time I hit the boozy store. Got 2 more compliments.
" I had a 73 850 ! " at the first intersection.
At the store I got another . " I had a 73 850 , Commando ! ".
2 different guys.
This happens every time I take her out.
I'll keep riding until the salt.
Enjoy.

Speaking of wine, I always keep a couple of these around. 4 Vines Zinfandel. Decent drinker and interesting bottle as a gift.
