Not even sure how to describe this. Inside the rear fender, as most of you know, there are two bolts that mount the fender. The one on the left side leaks engine oil into the rear fender. Where the Heck does that come from?????? Driving me crazy. The oil leaks on this thing are making me nuts........ Timing chest is the worst offender, but then this thing pops up. Also engine oil coming off the rear sprocket dripping straight down when parked....... kinda like when it had the chain oiler working... (has since been plugged) I can accept some leaking, as it did when I bought it new, but this is really getting me depressed. PS: Total rebuild.... all new everything. and Yes there is a PCV valve in the breather line.

Steve I'll betcha the bottom of the oil tank affixing bolt brazing has developed a hairline crack causing slow leakage. The little rubber thingy that goes between the tank bottom and the mounting point goes rock hard after years of being roasted at hot oil temperatures transmitting vibration directly to this feeble area. Removing the tank and reinstalling the improved one is a lot of work.Try cleaning with degreaser n' hosewater the area off clean so you can observe with a flashlight the source of this wierd leakage.Peter.

Belt drive? Yes, no? If so, do you run it dry or wet. It begs the question of the oil level in the primary rising to the felt and dripping on to the sprocket and beyond. A breather valve is not the end all solution. A lot of oil can come into the primary from the primary inner ower mounting bolt hole.

Others causes are possibly a bad connection in the oil lines, loose fittings? There always seems to be a camp, bolt, plug , or something of this nature missed after a rebuid. Nip and tuck.

Dry Belt Drive. Have been suspecting oil tank and lines, but have been heisitant in removing all the crap to get at that area.

Also suspect tranny oil past the mainshaft worn sleeve bush. Suspect engine clamp bolts loose. Also suspect too hi oil levels if going by the manual listed amount.
The only real reason I ever took my 1st Combat apart was only to fix 14 separate leaks and renew normal wear items. Then found major stuff to delay for 5 yr to ride it again. Not the only seal goop but the only one I use everywhere, master cylinder to head gasket is Hi Temp Racer Blue Hylomar.

If it's the oil tank then do this:

Maybe the chain oiler. It sit right above the fender. If it's terminated but the valve is still there it could be leaking there.
Mine did until I removed it. But check the oil tank as well.

As I found out myself, if your engine has wet sumped for any leangth of time oil seeps past the seal & into the primary. Mine did this and I thought the leak was from my gearbox until the more experianced and wiser folks here told me to unscrew the primary level plug, I did & a bunch of engine oil came out. Could be worth a try. Might not be as dry as you think.
