Why you should clean your sludge trap...

You wouldn't this in your engine oil would you?

must have some miles on that bike!
I rebuilt mine at 32k and there was not really anything there to speak of
Advise was to keep using the same oil after which is meant to reduce build up
good luck with the build

Wow. Do you know any history of that engine??.. That sludge almost look solidified/crusty.. Have you heard it running prior? Has the engine been submerged as there appear rusty blemishes.

Bet your glad you checked that....

The 1st British Iron motto I learned, Always clean sludge traps. So even if only 1 out of 100 getting clogged how lucky to ya feel punk. Best wishes getting the crank fasteners to stay as tight as torque wrench leaves them - initially.

Crank is out of a very neglected P11. The pistons were so seized the owner removed them...in pieces...with a drill.

The journals looked pristine though. The feed end of the crank was mushroomed out due to an enthusiast using his steel hammer on it, presumably to separate the cases. It needed a turn in the lathe.
The crank looked to have been turned down .020" and then set up for an extended period. Maybe outside.
Should be serviceable soon.
