What's going on here Gents?
I got the wheels back for my 1974 MK2A and am confused with the rear wheel situation.
The "left hand bearing spacer" that is located in the brake drum does not sit up against the bearing, it looks like it should to me, and the name suggests it should too!
But the "inner bearing spacer" located in the wheel hub protrudes from the bearing and prevents the "left hand bearing spacer" form getting anywhere near the bearing.
The upshot of all this is that it looks to me like the wheel hub is not pulling up properly onto the brake drum.
The wheel builders were not supposed to remove the bearings, so shouldn't have introduced an error here (won't be able to ask them until Tuesday) yet I do not recall this situation when I stripped it.
The "inner bearing spacer" looks like the offender to me, it looks too long.

This is a pic of the "inner bearing spacer" you can see how it protrudes from the bearing:

This is a pic of the the "left hand bearing spacer" the shoulderd part looks like it should rest in the felt seal in the wheel hub to me, you can see that both spacers are a sliding fit on the spindle, so one will not fit into the other:

Any advice on what the issue is here chaps??

As a guess, the spacer in the alloy wheel hub is the wrong way around.

That projection should be on the speedo side...

yep, some one fitted the long bearing spacer wrong way round, guaranteed...

Good to know that I am not the only one that did this, remove bearing turn spacer around and re install bearing

I made this exact post a couple months ago, same help from a great group of members

Thanks chaps, spacer was wrong way around as you said. Now sorted and fitted.

Just got to get the front wheel back to CWC now to correct the 7.48mm offset error that they built into it !!

If you're on a standard rim/frame setup a straight edge should lie against both the rim and the machined face on the cush-drive - I guess this is where you've got the offset?

Not good though - you'd think they'd have done this sort of thing before...

I just had to check this out.
I had an 18" rim laced on a rear hub by Buchanan's in 1979! and sure enough the left side edge of the rim is on a plane with the machined cush drive side of the hub.

The 18' Dunlop K81 tire/tube has held air all these years as the bike sat in the garage!
