Hi
After my recent incorrect diagnosis of movement and squeaks in the rear wheel I have measured all the spacers etc and nothing looks original.
Failure was a collapsed right hand bearing.
The hub bearing was fitted with a 16mm wide double row deep groove bearing as per the brake drum, it should have had 6203 single groove and it looks like spacers were made to suit, plus possibly the inner bear housing in the hub may have been machined deeper?
I measured the hub spacer bearing shoulder to bearing shoulder and corresponding hub faces and got a inner bearing spacing of 2.178", not bad but the right hand bearing is the locating bearing for end loads so would have thought the inner spacer would have been a bit longer than the hub so that there no implied axial loads on both bearings.
I started then from the left hand side using the standard brake hub bearing, I allowed for a bit of clearance, 0.020" between the brake drum and hub and came up with a spacer 1.418" long this includes the 16mm into the 4203 bearing.
On the right hand side I will use what appears to be the original spacer (inside the speedo drive), and the little top hat spacer, then the long right hand spacer which was originally 1.159" but now will need to be 1.588" long, (may make these two one piece).
This will fill up the 8.125" wide space between the swing arm lugs, and with some luck put the wheel in the correct position without preloading the bearings as it did originally.
I have also added the brake drum and its spacer into the above measurements.
Or is there someone on the forum that has these spacer dimensions?
Any help greatly appreciated.
