I've read some of the threads on this back to 2005 but still would like to know if any one has gotten to the bottom of the question as to what type of steel is ok & what is to brittle. As a part of my job I do steel verification (as well as all other structural items) I look at mill certificates every day but I am not an engineer. I do have a working understanding of A 325 & A490 high strength bolts & am trained to use a Skidmore for testing bolts & systems for tightening them so I understand the diff between torque & tension. I don't mean to open another long debate on it but has any one determined what steel make up is working & who's are not? I have a front stainless axle from Middleton & am thinking of ordering a rear ( stainless) axle from RGM. If still avail. My stock ones are both shot as the bearings must have been neglected by tpo. What's the verdict?

They are probably alright, but I don't trust them, still got my originals.
If I decided to go stainless, I would make them myself from 17-4ph H1025 or Carpenter custom 465 H1000.
I have seen what stainless engine studs can do.
