What's been done to this cylinder head?

I've had someone bring me what I've so far identified as a 1968 Atlas 750 to go through to see what it'll take to make road-worthy again.

The first thing that I've noticed is that some type of repair has been made on both cyclinder heads as seen in the attached picture. Are these heads known for cracking and this is a repair? And, do these repairs typically hold or is it time to start trying to find replacemnent heads?

Thanks for any input.

The head covers both cylinders, so you only need the one head, but there were 2 types of Atlas head, one with a recess for the spigot on the barrel and one without a recess for a spigot less barrel. You will need to take head off to see which type is fitted.

‘Both heads’ … you mean it’s the same on both sides ?

I wonder if someone intended to fit decompressors or similar ?
