What to do ?

I enjoy just looking at them in the wintertime. Had them all tucked away in a storage garage within the shop, but now that shop is in retirement, Ive brought them back out for viewing.
That way everytime I walk thru I get to have a look.
At the moment, the BSA Super Rocket is the favourite piece of eye candy.
The Commando is up there tho.
The best is when Spring weather comes and the riding starts, but just gazing at, and occasionally working on the mechanical artwork in Wintertime is part of the fun.

today I am in Mexicomike space , went to local shop yesterday and got some 114 octane race gas and mixed up a batch of 100 I think ... anyway started up second kick ... did get some exhaust flame first couple of twists then turned off enrichment .... guess I still love the old beast .... it has only 7700 miles on clock and I have the history.... will leave it at door of shed instead of last in line so easily my first choice when heading out .... everything say Combat except”C” missing on head ? .... ... talked with Kenny at NYCNorton and may bite the bullet and send him the engine if not satisfied with how things go first part of this season , ready to ride at this point , just waiting on Spring

Unless you plan to get out of motorcycels entirely keep the Norton. I have the '72 in the avatar and also a 2007 XL1200R. Modern bikes including Harley have so many semiconductors. None of these circuits are going to last much beyond 30 years. That means these "modern" motorcycles will not be restorable to the degree a Commando is.

Not sure bout semi conductors .... I do like ABS brakes I think , got them on the Ducati .... all newer bikes have multiple black boxes now if that what mean .... I like the FI and EI on both the Italian bikes too .... I do know what you mean with the Nortons though , any fool can work on them right , like me ... except me I’m only willing to go so far .... then got to ask for help or pay for it ....

Craig,
The combat engine has some other bad things like weak pistons and camshaft retainer breakage in addition to superblend issues. I have a combat with all the engine fixes and it is delightful to ride. You fixed everything else pretty much.

Thanks Baldy , previous owner did top end , cam replacement and single carb long ago ... he passed away in 2010 , before he left he told me bottom end was good when he checked .... I have no idea what cam ,he told be to adjust lash same as Combat.... wish he still around to quizz .... he did say top was taken to first oversize ....

I would imagine that if he said that, it still has the 2S cam.

Strange combo IMHO; a single carb (limits top end performance) and a 2S cam (limits bottom end performance).

But I know someone, who’s opinion is to be respected, who swears by that combo.

Seems to me that the only downside to a Combat head is the 32mm ports. If you have an non Combat head, chances are it has 30mm (or less) ports.

If you were to send that head to Comnoz for his ‘full works’ porting job it would transform the beast!

hobot says if not adhering to factory issued correct combos yet desire surprising front lifting power, fit earlier 750 28.5 mm small port heads, even w/o milling to regain 10:1, retain 2S cam and fit 34mm single carb, with 1 5/8" headers. Single carbs with more CFM than each dual definitely can out perform same size dual carbs but goes against common advice but plenty of reports here and spectacular wins that are exciting exceptions to the rules you may never forget. I've tried 2 Combats, one came with dual Amals and put a 34 mikimouse on it and another came with 34 mickymouse carb I put dual 932's on it to like dual Amals best if just wanting spunk below 4000ish, but if wanting to kick up heels with moderns thrills, 34mm single pulled harder to rather higher top end, which was scary to do compared to 2 smaller Amals. To get similar power from Combat 32mm ports requires deep redzone operation which does produce the advertised 65 hp as proven in world watched 1/4m show down to below 12.24 sec if brave enough to risk fracturing cast iron flywheel to smithereens. If if don't feel like a 3rd piston kicking in ~6800 rpm then it ain't a Combat Bomb cream of the Commando crop. Small port responsive off idle with either carb set up. Stock Amals can not sustain a Combat at WOT long, 30-40 sec as fuel flow can't fill float bowls fast enough w/o the BSA slot mod. Not downside with 34 single except for looks and filter adaptations. Learn enricher lever position for starts only.
