We have a racing bike 108353m on the engine casing in a slimline frame (no numbers on frame or (5 speed) box . I know Commando's but not Dommie/Atlas types.
Can anybody shed light on this number.

Cheers

Got any photos? It would help to identify it.
Any other numbers stamped on the cases?

I think it is a 1964 Atlas or Matchless Hybrid motor. Pictures would be helpful.

Looks like an Atlas to me.
Ceriani forks
Interesting rear brake
Interesting vent tube off the timing chest (or is that hoes just hanging there)
Anything marked on that gearbox?

This was probably the most successful Aussie period racer in the 80's with 58 wins from 68 starts. Every part of the motor (including all 3 tappet covers) has a breather terminating in the bucket in front of the motor. Gearbox is a 5 speed quaife with no numbers.

Has not run since mid 80's. We hope to have it back on the track this year.

Good looking piece with some history. Interesting that they went with straight pipes and no megaphones. Headers look to be about 1-5/8"; are they?

Very interesting bike and interesting features.
Don't see to many bikes with 2LS rear brakes and SLS front.
Anybody know what rear brake that is? Looks magnesium and looks familiar, but can't really place it.

Certainly bigger than standard. Runs straight methanol and Tighe cam so we are told so maybe straight is OK. Resonation sounds fantastic. Quickest Norton I have ridden.

Front is 2ls

We reckon maybe TZ Yamaha or thereabouts

Ah, looking closer, it looks like a twin cable brake lever. Presumably single leading shoe brake plate on each side?
Always interests me to see race bikes like this and wonder how all the different bits came to be together.

Atlas would usually also have a 20/ in the engine number somewhere. ?
Early Atlas's have those 2 smaller headbolts either side of the sparkplug.
Could be the Matchless version of it.
Interested to hear what you find inside it, and a report of it back on the track....

If it is a 750 motor, the stamping on the crank case should be 20/108353 if destined for a slimline frame. If the engine was originally from the 750 hybrid (Atlas Scrambler or Matchless G15CS), the stamp would read N15CS/108353 or G15CS/108353

Thanks BillT

We found a very faint 20/ in front of the number, so it will be the 750 atlas in a slimline frame.

thanks
