Thank you johntickle.

I am going to be swapping out my crankcase for another one. Assuming I can re-use as many parts as possible, is there a list anywhere of parts that I should (or need) to replace? I'm going to get :

a full gasket kit
Bearings
New studs and nuts.

I just don't know what I can reuse. Cam bushings?

My Norton runs perfectly, just have to swap out the case due to the usual Combat cracks at the engine mounts. :-(

Often the cracks are the result of the cradle plates and the bosses cast into the cases being stretched or worn oblong. No amount of tightening the bolts/studs will cure it. It causes 'shuffling' that you can see on the crankcase and cradle. If you get a good crankcase but have oblong holes in the cradle then it's probably going to happen again. Oversize bolts/studs that have the correct 'grip length' that don't have the cradle riding on the threads are a good idea. It's a unique situation where you can't tighten the hell out of the fasteners without distorting or cracking the cases. Try a search on oversize engine mounting bolts.

Yes, there are many things to concider when swapping out cases.
When I did mine, I got a late set (210xxx) with good cam bushes in place and my cam fit perfectly. I cannot being able to reuse cam bushing and even if you tried, you would have to get them alighned.

Another very important aspect is thread insert where ever possible. At the minimum, put thread inserts in the drain plug and in the driveside where the inner primary bolt on. I have seen and I know many people have added inserts to all threaded stressed areas like for the base cylinder studs. Not only does this add integrity to the motor but also added value.
