What is a good fluid to use in my parts washer

This will be a dumb question to most but what is a good parts washer fluid I can use to clean my engine parts and tranny parts in?? I have been using kerosene and it smells like hell. I am looking for one that works well and is the least toxic (fume wise) and hopefully not as stinky???

Mark , I have always used Varsol. It seems to be the solvent most auto repair or heavy equipment shops use in their parts washers as well.
