Or as John Cleese famously said “he’s off to the Isle of Skye, or rather, he was” . And you need to be old to remember that one.

The road to Applecross is a cracker if you aren’t used to riding in the Alps or similar, it’s the nearest thing to an alpine pass in the UK

Climbing that hill with a pillion passenger and luggage and an erratic Boyer Micro Power ignition is something you don’t forget.

I'm so out of touch with abbreviations I didn't know what FWIW meant until today. I don't know what a lot of common abbreviations mean. I just skip over and keep reading. I am not caring.

I rode it on a Harley, last year. Fantastic road. Bike didn't cope with it. Actually scraped the frame lowers a couple of times. Sold the bike the week I got home, never again. But going back to Applecross this year.

Fresh flounder ( caught in morning) and community sourced coconut cream pie , cafe on beach, beside wharf in Parrsboro Nova Scotia , great ride from my place along Bay of Fundy coast … one of my fave lunch stops ….

Why do people use abrevations eg FWIW IOW IMO etc surly the time it takes to press the Caps lock and then un it cant be quicker than typing the words FF SAKE
Testing:

IMHO took 5 key presses - surprised with my terrible typing that it didn't take more.

Inmy humble ioinion - that's what I got without correcting. Let's see how many keystrokes to say it right.

In my humble opinion That took 28 and I was going slow trying to get it right.

Just to be a D :) , look at your sentence - miss-spelled word, improperly used abbreviation, improperly formed contraction, improper punctuation, "un it cant" don't know what that is and according to the urban dictionary it's FFS, not FF SAKE. Again, no offense intended - I type worse than you and don't catch most of my mistakes.

I was touring Scotland by motorhome some years ago and went into a fish and chip shop and deep fried Mars bar was on the menu. When I asked why? I was told they’d been asked for it a few times and decided to add it to the list. Makes a change from tatties and neeps I guess.
And now in a lot of UK chippies you can't get cod. What's the world coming to?

And what about how the pc brigade or whoever, decided to try to rename Pollock to Colin? This world is going bloody crazy. I see that the sweeties called Midget Gems (they’re tiny) are to be called Mini Gems to appease the short of stature.

I thought all the abbreviations came about with flip phones that had three letters on each key, press once for the first letter, twice for the second letter and three times to choose the third

Sounds about right. Also at one time the yoofs would write ‘book‘ in place of ‘cool’ as it took less presses.

How would British Leyland have got round that?
'What's the world coming to?'..... It's already there!

I thought it started in the boardroom with corporate a-holes trying to impress each other while they were rearranging their icons on their computers so the workforce could be more efficient.

It actually started with chat rooms and Instant Messanger chat clients like GEnie, CompuServe AOL AIM, etc. in the early internet age, pre cell phone texting.

Okay. Blame it on the users of PED's early and today! Tiny type keys = abbreviation!

deep fried Mars bars were first mentioned as a northern English and/or Scottish speciality from fish bars, which fitted with the northern penchant for unhealthy diet ingredients....
