What do Wheels Weigh?

Aplogies for being off topic but could not resist temptation to weigh my Velo Venom front wheel itcomes in at 24lbs!
wonder where Hall Green got the depleted uranium from ?

They have a local old coal mine which they send their new apprentices for a couple of days digging up the muck!;)

There is only one thing wrong with this post: namely the lighter the wheel the less likely it will survive an impact with a kerb, hitting another pedestrian/car/ bike/ wall-in fact it will more likely be a wright off :(

Bernhard, I don't think that's a fault with the post. It just compares weight, with no recommendations on what to choose. If impact with a curb (US spelling:)) is a major concern, then steel rims or sturdy cast alloy wheels appear to be the best choice, not magnesium, or light weight alloy, or carbon fiber, but that doesn't seem to me to mean that you can not use the other materials. The magnesium wheels have historically been primarily meant for racing use, but there have been production bikes that had magnesium wheels. I chose to use quality magnesium wheels on one of my street bikes because I think the risk of breaking one is very small. In 46 years of riding and racing, I have so far never hit a curb. Certainly it's possible I will, but the odds of that happening and also causing injury to someone else seem so small to me that I don't see the need to base my design choices on it.
