there have been instances when torque settings in the manual were too much for real life....

I am getting ready to put most of the major components back into the frame and was wondering if anyone knew of the other torque settings that needed to be adjusted?

are the numbers on the lead forum page pretty much spot on and are there any missing torque values?

thanks,

Eric

What's printed in the tech pages here look pretty much like they're straight from the factory manual. In 34 years I haven't had any issues with any of the factory numbers.

Clutch-to-mainshaft

Norvil's website recommends clutch-to-mainshaft torque be reduced to 40 ft/lb., because it's torqueing against a thin washer on the mainshaft.

The 70 ft/lb figure in the manual was apparently a carryover from the Atlas?

Anyway, I went with 40 ft/lb and permatex white threadlocker when I did mine, no troubles so far.

According to the late John Hudson (Norton's Service manager for many years) the oil pump stud nuts should be no more than 10 ft/lb. and not 15 ft/lb. as stated in the torque settings.
