Just returned on my Mk 3 from a trip to North Wales , the first time since the introduction of the general 20 mph speed limit. Well , how to start :- it seems to have had an effect on many drivers to drive at 12-15 mph as they are paranoid about being captured by the all seeing eye , sometimes it seems like I'm not moving at all. To be honest most people used to slow right down in the villages anyway and it was just the odd ass hole who sped there. I think it will badly affect daytime tourism in Wales as I (we) just can't be bothered with it all, and unless I was to install trials gearing on a Commando It's just a pain riding this slow.

Don't want to harm the little kiddies, but no becoming a bit of a joke really with slow speeds, but its a good way to get more money out of us suckers and the excuse, for safety, what a load of B S give us your money more like it.

I'm actually living the nightmare of all this nonsense !!! You guessed it I'm from Wales.

There is an online petition against this new speed limit .... see here .... https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/245548

The first thing folks can do is to sign the petition.

Secondly, drive everywhere at 15 MPH to totally piss off everyone on the roads such that if they havent yet signed the petition then hopefully they soon will .... inertia is a bitch !

Thirdly and sorry but here is the politics .. briefly .. ( apologies ) .. at the next election vote for someone other than Welsh Labour - these are the very idiots who dreamt up this ridiculous idea.

The 20 MPH petition has broken all records for Wales in terms of numbers of people signing at 460,000 and yet despite this the Welsh Government still refuses to discuss it - note that after a petition gets to 10,000 it is then eligible for discussion in parliament !

I'm all for 20 outside schools and hospitals and risky areas but this 20 MPH thing is all but a blanket speed reduction in most all the previous speed limit areas.

On my way home today I was passed by two cyclists and three runners ( all of which were exceeding my 15 mph due to cars in front of me ) and I gotta laugh they were all on the road ...... not on the deicated footpath / cycle path running alonside it .... as Homer would say " Doh !! "

By the way 460,000 may not sound a lot but pro rata per population head it equates to 69 million 700 thousand citizens of the USA ...... !!

There were studies done on the early 20mph projects, the results show next to no difference in pedestrian injuries as.

1. The drivers that exceed the 30mph limit continue to drive at the same speed when the limit is dropped. They typically have no driving licence or insurance anyway and could not give a dam.

2. Pedestrians get lulled into thinking they are safer so they take more risks and so have more accidents.

But the virtue seeking politicians just carry on regardless.

I’ve been discussing your point 2 with people a lot. I see it with my own eyes here in Oxford, people just walk out into the road because they feel sure the cars will brake and yield. Which of course they do, so it continues.

Behaviour of cyclists and E scooter riders is similarly effected.

I had it this morning, traffic crawling along a 12-15 mph and 2 youths come flying up the INSIDE at what must have been 25mph.

If you don’t believe this is a true phenomenon, just imagine the speed limit was 70mph… how many people would carelessly walk into the road then? NONE is the answer !

In Sweden, a couple of years ago they changed speed limit in towns and villages from 30 Mph to 25. Reason was that they wanted people to go under 30. We don't have many speed cameras and there are warning signs before them, so you must be quite ignorant to get caught. Motorcycles can't be fined as cameras only check for front licence plates and a face recognition is needed. Though outside schools limit is 19, which I think make sense.
For American readers, we don't have any jaywalking rules, but you must give way for pedestrians on marked crossings.

I boycott the wokes. I spend thousands 💵 at the hardware store, restaurants & pubs. Not any more in Lamesbury.👋🏻
Go woke, go broke.

I've signed it . Tomorrow evening there is a mass meeting of bikers and car drivers at our town hall to protest at the proposed 20mph limit on Wirral. I swear our council is run by feckin morons that don't do anything the people want, but everything they don't want. I will make myself heard. This woke/virtue drivel has got to be stopped.

I guy who lives near me in a village in Oxford told me how they recently received a poll from the local council on proposed 20mph limits.

The residents voted overwhelmingly to reject the proposal and keep things as is.

So, obviously, the council is proceeding with the proposals.

I. Just. Don’t. Freakin. Get it.

There, right there, is the answer…

Use your votes wisely people.

Sometimes, you get what you vote for…

"Taxation without representation"

Marxist agenda.

In 1955 we had a general voting regarding which side of the road to drive on.
82,9% voted to keep left like sensible countries like UK, Australia and Japan.
So in 1967 we changed to the right.

Wales is now on my 'no travel' list. No point in supporting this nonsense and no point in
risking my wallet and temper. The worse the woke get the better off we will be I suspect
as it will finally awaken the slumbering masses.
...you know, the people who pay their taxes without quibble and probably don't ever vote.

Unfortunately most don't bother voting ( should be made a legal requirement ! )

Just look at the recent Scottish election - 37 % turnout and " they " call it a breakthrough

There are a few issues with forcing a vote. Firstly the moral / ethical one, a democracy is supposed to be about freedom of choice, so it’s something of an oxymoron for a democracy to take away a persons right to abstain.

Secondly, on a practical note, even if you force people to vote you can’t force them to think! So you'd get all sorts of randomness going on, plus a rise in the Lord Such style candidates.

Personally, I think the answer lies in the eduction system, educate the young to realise just how privileged they are to have this right, and what an opportunity it is to have a part in deciding such things. And to educate them that THIS is how you change things… not by glueing yourself to stuff !!

In Australia its compulsory to vote with only 24 million people, which would count for a bout 14 million voters give or take, and if aussies had their way no one wouldn't vote for any of the bastards so they need as many to vote for GOVT to form, not trying to be political, most parties make promises but they seem to forget those promises once they get in, its all about them and their party than what the people want.
leaders of any party seem to loose their way once they get voted in.

Interesting comment but of course 100% incorrect.

The phrase " Taxation without representation" was made famous with the American Revolutionary wars. Against the British king. Not really known for his Marxist political views.

Strangely enough the best known modern examples also come from the USA. The citizens of Puerto Rico and The District of Columbia pay US Federal Tax. But do not have representation in Congress.

So rather than a Marxist agenda the facts seem to show in modern practice it is a USA Republic agenda.

Always pays to check the facts first.
