Now, I have historically been, er...what you might call...wait for it...a bit of a Meridenistra. Ive had the odd BSA but plenty of Triumphs...It occurred to me this time last year when I was literally tip-toeing around the Covid precipice that I hadn't actually ever owned a Commando .. or any Norton to be honest. Now in all honesty, I went looking for a mk1 Rocket 3, but....came back with a 810cc Dunstall Commando, now come on it only has 2000 miles on the clock..what could possibly go wrong? The bike was in the USA and is currently aboard the SS Flying Dutchman.....I'm told to expect it around the end of May...I'll let you know!

Good for you. You'll probably sell the other stuff then when you get your Norton legs.

Be prepared to go faster than your Triumph. I do like the Triumph style and had a ’68 Bonneville. Had a hard time keeping up with the Norton club rides. Good luck with the Dunstall pieces.

You'll have to send pictures, or it's not true
Anyway, that will help us identify what is Dunstall on it or not. It could be anywhere from just a 810 kit to a full blown Dunstall catalog on wheels from the era. I saved catalogs from 1971 & 1974

I promise not to pass any judgements on your new bike............ unless it's been chopped because they're the only ones I dislike... All others are GTG. Beneficial mods are good also.... such as 'Brown Bess' emblazoned on the tank. Heh heh.

The commando is generally a bit faster than a triumph twin
The lack of vibration is a bit unerving after sampling the delights of Mr Turner's twin
I have owned a few of both and ridden many many late model triumph twins and a few early ones
And in my opinion a commando is a far superior motorcycle
Apart from the dunstall 810 are there any other mods?

Gorn?

Its running Mk4 cam 10:1 pistons fully ported head, quaife 5 speed gearbox Dr Blair exhaust and matching centre stand, and so as not to be a bit frightening it's still running it's twin leader front brake. Very early electronic ignition too, it's down for an Early June delivery

Straight in at the deep end then, brilliant stuff

Yep... Need to ride some before getting into Norton porn because there's no turning back.

Nice '71. Has the Dunstall silencer mount plates. Doesn't have the full Monty Dunstall treatment, but does have all the go fast equipment. It would be nice if it also has the Dunstall kickstart lever. That would make kicking a 10:1 engine a little easier.
You're going to enjoy riding it!

You will find that you must hang on to the handgrips purposely, I never thought about it until I sold my Bonnie and got my Commando.

Latest update...It is in the middle of the Atlantic, battling its way past the U-Boat packs and Submarine nets etc ...on its way to Antwerp...EH?
Then, apparently, by the beginning of June it will be transhipped to Liverpool...Hussah! I only live 40 miles away...excellent
Bugger, then it will be again be loaded onto a Container lorry and taken to Sunny Barrow in Furness...BOOOH...this is 100 miles way
I can collect it from there, or they will deliver it for 400 notes...I think I'll collect it..ahem

@bonnietiler - you've been on this forum much longer than I, but I haven't seen your posts.
Is your monicker and indication you're a fan of "Total Eclipse of the Heart"?
