I saw this http://www.aluminumrepair.com/video_new.asp on a mailing list, it looks promising, at least to the newbie that I am. I have sent the link to an expert to see what he has to say about it, but for mere mortals trying to get old bikes with many alloy parts needing repairs to continue working, I see many uses.

Looks interesting

And speaking of welding...

I used to have both MIG and oxy/acet setups. I was no great welder but I was acceptable. I had to sell a lot of my tools when we moved to Mexico, including the welding stuff.

SO...yesterday I was at Home Depot (yep, we have Home depot, Office Max, Costco, Walmart, etc in Mexico city) and, since I needed to do some minor welding, I decided to buy the Bernzomatic Mapp/O2 torch kit. How bad could it be? Pretty darned bad! DO NOT buy this if you want to do even minor welding/brazing. Buy a real torch set and the bottles.

Sometimes I scare myself that I'm still learning lessons that I already know - DON"T buy cheap tools. :(

Thanks for heads up on the cheap torch let down.

I got me a pony bottle back pack size Oxy/Acteyl braze/cut combo, very handy to remove swing arms from crade or to let myself out of broken electric gates at storage site, or into about any thing I want pretty darn quietly and quickly.
Mainly its the rack that holds the bottles and wrap hose on, as any full size regulaor and torches work. I put on a leather pouch to hold the heads and its tools.

Here's another DIY metal gluing source.
