i'm rewiring my 72. this is my 1st bike and for the moment i'll keep thestock alternator and points-coil setup. i would like to fit anew v reg/ rect tho. looking at old britts isee a podtronics for 39 bucks a boyer power box for for 160, and a tympanium w/ no price specified. why the price disparity? do they all do pretty much the same thing? is quality the same? thanx in advance, rick

The Podtronic is what you need, it is a rectifier and voltage regulator in one unit.

The tympanium and Podtronics are electronic rectifier/regulators. The tympanium has no heat sink and need to be mounted on a surface that will allow heat to be dissipated. The Podtronics are set in a finned aluminum heat sink and can be mounted anywhere there is a modest airflow. The Boyer Power Box is a rectifier/regulator that includes a charge accumulating capacitor that can allow the bike to be run without a battery.
