VM34 intake fix?

So I'm in the build stage of my norty. The engine is mounted and I installed the new mikuni and the throttle cable won't go into the carb as the cap is 1/2 or so under the back tube of the frame. I remember reading about this issue and searched for it to no avail. What did you do to fix this issue. Is there another piece of intake I can buy to offset the carb from the frame?

I'm running a VM36 on my 850 and the carb has to be tilted in the rubber spiggot adapter, to one side of the back bone of the frame for the throttle cable to fit. Kind of stupid but that's the way it is.

hi chopped, what about drilling the backbone and routing cable through that , its got to be better than tilting the carb to one side,as you say ,its going to cause fuel level problems ,just a thought

I'm unsure of starvation as people have been doing the Mikuni conversion for ages. I'm sure if it caused any problems tilting the carb, such a conversion wouldn't be done. I never had a problem with fuel delivery before I started the rebuild of my bike so I doubt I will afterward and I'm sticking with that VM36.

I don't really know but I have never had a problem yet.

Good to know. I won't be able to drill a hole through the back tube as the tank is gonna be mounted right there. I will check it out when I get that far. There's alot of fab work left to be done.

Normally, the cable will have a curved 90 degree elbow at the carb top to route it forward. Then, it's a close fit but still light to operate.

I think Old Britts sells an elbow that gives you a little more clearance for just that thing. I know mine is sort of tight clearance but still it fits without tilting or altering anything. I suppose it depends on the intake that you used, it might be a little different geometry than mine. I know that's been discussed before.

Same here VM36 with 90 elbow fits..

I recently installed a 90 deg adapter from Old Brits only because it was available but prior to that I ran for years with the carb slightly tilted and never had any problems. If you do get the adapter you will have to shorten the outside sheath of the cable because of the different dimensions of the adapter.

I looked at Old Britts and found the adaptor page. But which part# is the one you bought and use? Thanks
