Did the BMW label give it away? I've the triangular profile Vetter bags along with the lowers but no photo for you or Vetter luggage box.

looks like fairing mounting brackets were made for commando's,

here's the prob
http://www.craigvetter.com/pages/Vetter ... ckets.html

Now, here is the bad news: Only the most popular brackets like CB750 or GL1000 had names stamped into them. This means most brackets have no identifying marks whatsoever. This is frustrating because there is no way to identify a bracket once it is away from its bike.

There were no drawings made of the brackets. The first bracket was made on a motorcycle, painted orange (to identify them as "Master Parts" ) and a jig was made from it. then production batches of brackets were made from that jig. As I recall, as batches of, say, 1978 CX500 brackets were produced, they were packed in boxes with the rest of the parts that made up a kit. After that, there was no way to identify that bracket.

on another note, others came out with clone variants of the vetter, what's important to know is most bolted up to a vetter bracket

.......I made a custom mount to fit a Vetter Windjammer fairing to my MK3, but took it off after a couple rides. It was just too much weight on the front of the bike......Ken[/quote

+1........I had one on my '78 CB750F and remember how heavy it was when I took it off, it was never reinstalled on the bike, and I sold it dirt cheap after storing it and moving it around for a couple of years :o

Comnoz big fairing is similar to Vetter to start with and then packed with clockes, electric brain boxes, daul oil filters and spare parts storage so wonder if he did something in forks to compensate. He did tell me it allowed him to do a stoppie and not go over the bars d/t knee holds on back of fairing.

Well, you'll notice that one thing he did to the forks is to replace them with modern USD forks, which gives him adjustment for preload and damping, as well as less flex and twist. That might be helpful with a large fairing at speed.

Ugh Ken I missed/forgot Comnoz jumped Norton Roaholder fence too, so not very applicable to those just hanging on a big fairing. If Peels big fairing sags Roadholders too much I'll put in my own spring stack, but don't expect I'll need to as don't tease with sports bikes when set up for mere cargo commutes smoking a cig sippling on coffee on cold road and tires. i'm not normal [duh] so where others are eager to upgrade away from Norton parts numbers I get pangs of pain giving up on another real Commando feature, even in Peel which I decided anything goes. Peel had a very tall/wide/low fork mount screen that almost killed me first time out as so nullfifed sense of wind blast speed I flew into first 35 mph sharpie at almost 90 mph and freaked TF out not on lossing grip or control but had to get so close to outter paint line to lean far over not to hi side it put my head too close to blind oncoming traffic which a few times a year newspapers report cycle deaths from lossing their head here. I had Peel rigged up for fast removal of hard bags and windscreen I'd use to get to work - ground zero- for cycle testing paradise - squads of sports bikes would collect and comment as much as sneer, till leaving the wind resisters behind then the sneering sports snubs.

When Peel was set up for wind/rain/hail/bugs comfort she was easier smoother almost quieter under helmet than my Lexus 400 so next Peel fairing must house a good stereo too. Subwoofers in stylish hard bags with cattle bumper Gravel crashing chromed railings that double as grab handles to pull back up to road level. The fiber IS tank and header wrap eliminated most mechanical and exhaust sounds form front area. Next Peel will have seals between tank and fairing for even less sense of blacksmih engine. When I say Ms Peel would flat disappear any sense of a motorcycle I mean only sense of tire patch grip w/o road texture annoyance and tubrofan smooth thrust with just thinking and eye ball effort to aim. Short of LSD over dose its the state I'd most like to die in this time around.

doesn't seem to be much info out there on commando fork swaps so just linking what comes up quick

ZX6, ZX9 fit with a little bit of work on the yoke stem.

TL1000 fits with a replacement custom yoke stem.

All of the above need the stem to be 1", and it will slip right into the Norton headstock bearings.

All of these use modern 1" hollow axle.

There is a critical fit of the modern multi-pot brake calipers to a spoked (laced) wheel, requiring a custom made hub & spacers for the calipers to clear the spokes. Cast wheels have a very narrow profile in the area where the calipers reside when the wheel is mounted up.

i think a 1" stem opens up the world of endless harley front end options, from stock, aftermarket and custom, including yokes, forks wheels and brakes

This kit will allow you to mount any front end with a 1" stem, including front ends from:

Harley Davidson Big Twins 1949 and newer
Sportsters 1982 and newer
DNA Springers or other Springers with 1" stems

Well as they say in the army you can only piss with the equipment your issued ,and this is it for now.

Dug it out and split a chunk of at the corner. No worries it'll fix . Just need to find the rest of the brackets and it's no Vetter but that's life.

can't say i've seen vetter bags or trunk on a norton though prob wouldn't be a huge deal,

unlike the front fairing mounts of which there are many, i think the rear mountings are mostly universal,

a few things i like about the vetter bags is they load from the side, are lockable and quick detach,

the more common norton upswept pipe setup limits bag options as far as size and placement goes, if looking to max out or even just have more room to work with and all around

This is an NOS old school Twelth Dimension fairing and windshield I picked up on Craigslist a few months ago. I thought it looked cool and the price was right so I bought it. Don't think it will go on the Norton tho...but maybe.

Dennis,
I have a Wixom fairing that looks just like that one. I had it on my Mk3 back in the old days. I made brackets to make it fit. It worked well, even the turn signals fit, but now I like the unspoiled classic (naked) look. I'd sell it if anyone wants it, mine is black.

Yes the Wixom and the Twelth Dimension are very similar. Might even have been made from the same mold(s).

Could there be such a thing as "over faired"? Pics from VMBC meet 2014 in Portland IN. Vetter faired Kawa Ninja 250.

That stylish subby tail shape has proved deadly on land speeders do to too short it make vortexes that turn around and suck it side to side but fine for slower legal speed mileage miser's. Also a pretty fair weather shape even if the rain/hail was prefectly deflected over and around > the wind gusts could over power you out of life's lane. This is why 'dust bins' outlawed in roadraces. There's handsfulls of these Vetter shapes and glad to view them sensing their builders goals and pride and tedium redoings. Air flows, drag, upsets and a roof over head has taken me on fun fanascy flights imageingin for Peel.

I want Peel to payback with all weather ease/comfort on work/errand commutes with the big fairing and stereo and flight instrucments and coffee mug swivel but that often leaves me at ground zero with eager huffing and puffing sports squadrons so have to figure out how to make if easy-fast on/off to joy ride with em till bored then leave em for solo naked road orgasims. Peel gets two sets of headlights one in fairing and another behind it when nude. Don't know if Peels big mud flapps have aero effects I like or not.

Hey Hobot,

That's exactly what I was thinking...will be looking at a way to do a quick release system like more modern windscreens. There should be a way to make it work, although not with the heavy Vetter fairings and yours with the coffee mug swivel :D
