Now, here is the bad news: Only the most popular brackets like CB750 or GL1000 had names stamped into them. This means most brackets have no identifying marks whatsoever. This is frustrating because there is no way to identify a bracket once it is away from its bike.
There were no drawings made of the brackets. The first bracket was made on a motorcycle, painted orange (to identify them as "Master Parts" ) and a jig was made from it. then production batches of brackets were made from that jig. As I recall, as batches of, say, 1978 CX500 brackets were produced, they were packed in boxes with the rest of the parts that made up a kit. After that, there was no way to identify that bracket.

+1........I had one on my '78 CB750F and remember how heavy it was when I took it off, it was never reinstalled on the bike, and I sold it dirt cheap after storing it and moving it around for a couple of years![]()

doesn't seem to be much info out there on commando fork swaps so just linking what comes up quickhobot said:Ugh Ken I missed/forgot Comnoz jumped Norton Roaholder fence too, so not very applicable to those just hanging on a big fairing. If Peels big fairing sags Roadholders too much I'll put in my own spring stack, but don't expect I'll need to as don't tease with sports bikes when set up for mere cargo commutes smoking a cig sippling on coffee on cold road and tires. i'm not normal [duh] so where others are eager to upgrade away from Norton parts numbers I get pangs of pain giving up on another real Commando feature, even in Peel which I decided anything goes.
ZX6, ZX9 fit with a little bit of work on the yoke stem.
TL1000 fits with a replacement custom yoke stem.
All of the above need the stem to be 1", and it will slip right into the Norton headstock bearings.
All of these use modern 1" hollow axle.
There is a critical fit of the modern multi-pot brake calipers to a spoked (laced) wheel, requiring a custom made hub & spacers for the calipers to clear the spokes. Cast wheels have a very narrow profile in the area where the calipers reside when the wheel is mounted up.
This kit will allow you to mount any front end with a 1" stem, including front ends from:
Harley Davidson Big Twins 1949 and newer
Sportsters 1982 and newer
DNA Springers or other Springers with 1" stems
Floating Mount Saddlebags Lowest #29-27154 Highest #29-76,611
TailTrunk Lowest # 36-200002, Highest #36-250,013
Mar 1978 thru 1983
all
$299 bags; $175 trunk Many thousands of sets... maybe 100,000

unlike the front fairing mounts of which there are many, i think the rear mountings are mostly universal,
a few things i like about the vetter bags is they load from the side, are lockable and quick detach,
the more common norton upswept pipe setup limits bag options as far as size and placement goes, if looking to max out or even just have more room to work with and all around

Dennis,
I have a Wixom fairing that looks just like that one. I had it on my Mk3 back in the old days. I made brackets to make it fit. It worked well, even the turn signals fit, but now I like the unspoiled classic (naked) look. I'd sell it if anyone wants it, mine is black.

Peel gets two sets of headlights one in fairing and another behind it when nude. Don't know if Peels big mud flapps have aero effects I like or not.
