The one I'm talking about is C29.

Yes, you're right, the banjo orientation isn't really drawn accurately.

You should route the line from the timing cover to the head between your carbs.

hudson29's Commando only has a single Mikuni carb, though.

I have the same SS lines on mine from Old Britts, You should route the line from the timing cover to the head between your carbs. As for the side to side line on the head you can put in front of or behind the head. I went behind the head since it was easier to hook it up that way. Works good but if you have Amals with ticklers expect to get fuel on the SS plastic cover and it will discolor it. The new ticklers with the larger tops stop the fuel from leaking over everything!

My line isn't Venhill. I think I got via Eurotrash. Anyway, I found the crossover a bit broad and ran mine to the rear as well. Wanted it away from as much wiring as I could. Only issue was I had t put some clear line over the braided where it came in contact with the stock airbox. I suspect some fine tuning may cure that.

Sorry to ruffle your feathers there Swoosh, but if you look back at my post you will note that the vender was not mentioned, only the manufacturer of the kit. As both a manufacturer & vender to the public & resellers myself in another industry, I take my reputation seriously and do not feel that the seller necessarily knew the lines were too long to fit. Clearly the lines are too long to fit like the OEM unit did, I removed that unit to replace it with the new set and could see the line runs were different right away.

Possibly my unit was over dimension and I just ran into a rare problem. Possibly you are correct and there is a better routing that I was too stupid to figure out. I'm not alone in the dummy brigade, if I couldn't figure it out, I'm sure other mentally challenged wrench turners will share my lack of a clue. That's where a poop sheet by manufacturer would have been very helpful. My now 20 year old Norton build scrapbook is full of such sheets by other manufacturers.

Thanks to all who offered help here, I had no idea that the lines could be shortened, I had thought they were crimped and permanent. I'll try to shoot a pic showing the bottom end by the timing cover to show how it is now and see if a better routing could be suggested.

On the bright side of this, last night about 8:00 P.M. we got the Norton together and down off its workstand for the first time since 1998. The Mikuni had been cleaned of the old fuel but still needs attention as it pissed fresh fuel out of one of the overflow lines and it was too late to look into the matter further. We were close to getting it running at least!

I tried to emulate the stock routing and from the bottom went left through the engine cradle then turning up and passing the left side of the carb (when I had single Mikuni) then up to head coming over the intake rocker cover. Top connecting hose went towards the front.

Some people don't like to go through the engine cradle - sorry. I did sleeve that spot near the cradle edge with some clear tubing but the engine and cradle are not moving wrt each other so it shouldn't matter that much.

Swoosh you were way too harsh but I know you are probably cranky now since you got bent so will allow it. None of us would be happy under those circumstances.

I am cranky. I don't know how you noticed.

I have the same set up, line runs past socket head bolt for rubber carb mount, a tidy little wire bracket with a rubber gromett in it holds the line in place. length looks about right.
