Sorry to ruffle your feathers there Swoosh, but if you look back at my post you will note that the vender was not mentioned, only the manufacturer of the kit. As both a manufacturer & vender to the public & resellers myself in another industry, I take my reputation seriously and do not feel that the seller necessarily knew the lines were too long to fit. Clearly the lines are too long to fit like the OEM unit did, I removed that unit to replace it with the new set and could see the line runs were different right away.
Possibly my unit was over dimension and I just ran into a rare problem. Possibly you are correct and there is a better routing that I was too stupid to figure out. I'm not alone in the dummy brigade, if I couldn't figure it out, I'm sure other mentally challenged wrench turners will share my lack of a clue. That's where a poop sheet by manufacturer would have been very helpful. My now 20 year old Norton build scrapbook is full of such sheets by other manufacturers.
Thanks to all who offered help here, I had no idea that the lines could be shortened, I had thought they were crimped and permanent. I'll try to shoot a pic showing the bottom end by the timing cover to show how it is now and see if a better routing could be suggested.
On the bright side of this, last night about 8:00 P.M. we got the Norton together and down off its workstand for the first time since 1998. The Mikuni had been cleaned of the old fuel but still needs attention as it pissed fresh fuel out of one of the overflow lines and it was too late to look into the matter further. We were close to getting it running at least!
