Got me a used Smiths Tachometer at a sweet price to swap out the French made Veglia unit on my '74 850. The Veg is working fine, does have a ding on the bezel, but since the Speedo is Smiths, nicer to have a matching pair of clocks with same sized fading green blob.

Taking the Veg off, I find it is significantly lighter than Smiths. The casing is quite a bit deeper and the mount bolts, cable connection extend quite a bit further than Smiths.

The Smiths bolts do not reach the mounting bracket surface. What are the correct fittings to mount the British clock to the bike? I'm thinking a pillar nut of suitable length (10-15mm) then a stud with nut or just a bolt through bracket into the pillar nut.
Anyone know the thread size for the mount bolts?

If I remember correctly the thread is 2BA and the extender is the same as the 2 pillar bolts used in the contact breaker housing to hold the points plate and provide the holes for the breaker cover.

Sir, you are completely correct...same part number for both the points and instrument mount special pillar bolts. I'm running E.I. and I think the timing board still uses the original pillar bolts so can't "harvest" from the the parts bin (even though I think one was found stripped out with a bigger bolt in it when I did the change over).
