DO Not miss one un-detectable upgrade - after market rear brake safety spring. If cable some how comes loose, its said to pogo bike and rider. Commando are actually better than being married, both are money drains but one is always interesting with its ongoing needs and never ending attention.

upgrade to electronic ignition and as others see downgrade to single carb, the rest is bling.

That is a very good safety upgrade. I have the poor man's alternative which is a large rubber band cut from an old inner tube and looped around the brake lever and the foot peg. (I am all about style and good looks you know.) If the cable snaps the rubber band will keep the brake lever from hanging down. If you don't have the spring at least do this as a safety precaution.

I got really excited when I saw your picture. I thought you had come up with a replacement upgrade for that POS OEM brake light switch!

Ugh Norton should have stayed afloat on just too fast decaying replacements.
I'm sticking to factory on Trixie as test of manhood will power, discipline and financial capacity with enough time to ride a lot.

Here's the be done with it upgrade, if ya can accept its looks, by knowing Cdo'ers, you gave up and jumped ship for the easy life and steep slope upgraded.

Me, too! Ah, the spring. It is a must have.

It's also the peasant girl's alternative! :D I bought one of those springs - seemed like a great idea - but it didn't fit. I ended up tossing it in the useless parts box and cutting a rubber band from an old tube. I'm running the rubber bands on both of my Nortons!

Heya Big_Jim! Glad to see you're on board!

The yellow frame on the Beast is a dead give away. It is hard to stay anonymous with a frame like that! I am glad to hear that I am not the only one with the rubber band rear brake upgrade.

FWIW that might well improve the feel and action of the brake lever too....road bicycle brakes went to a similar dual spring setup (one in the lever and another in the caliper) years ago and it made a big (positive) difference in the brake feel

Have one of those springs on my rear brake lever and really like how it returns back. Inexpensive upgrade.
