One question, what would be the ideal way to replace the boyer stator with the new one?

One idea would be to make sure you don't use those crimped on red connectors, if broken strands under the tie wrap isn't the problem, a loosening crimp still can be.

On advice from Hobot I have been using Posi-loc screw together connectors on Boyer and Pazon connections. Though Pazon elimitated the stator plate ones by design.

However I recently discovered that their connector block on the stator still isn't foolproof! You need to make sure the screws stay tight to crimp the wires.

Thats what I initially believed but an earth goes from there to the battery.
I came to the conclusion using a voltmeter but correct me if I am wrong.

If that was a reply to "The ignition switch doesn't need to be 'grounded'."?

Then the standard Commando electrical system certainly doesn't need a grounded ignition switch or an earth/ground connection between the switch and the battery(+).

when i install a boyer i always use a washing up sponge cut in half , and stuff it in the old points cavity and replace the points cover it keeps the wires from the stator plate from internal fracturing due to vibration . done it for years and NEVER had a problem .Until i discovered this nifty little bodge i could usually recon trouble somewhere in the region of 3000 miles. the first time it happened nearly drove me mental trying to find the source of the intermittent miss fire. A very use full up grade for 20p !!!

When I had the cover of yesterday after re-insulating the leads I considered that.
You have made me try the idea.

i would not leave home without it. i always have the scouring part facing in . some how always seems right !

I use a piece of foam rubber as well, but I just use orange wire nuts with it. Easy on/off and never had an issue. Those red crimps Boyer sends out are bad news, toss them.
