In other areas where we ride (Mexico and Texas) we have a couple of "default" places that we like to ride to for lunch when we just want to take a ride without much planning. We ride out around 10am, get back around 4PM. In Mexico/Texas our destination is about 2 hours away, not counting any stop for fuel/whatever.
Being new to having bikes here in Bath (bought them last week), we're looking for something similar. It doesn't have to be a motorcycle-oriented establishment, just a decent place to eat via a (mostly) twisty/interesting road.
A couple of days ago we rode to Avebury mostly via the B roads which we enjoyed. We had never been to Avebury so we stopped at the first pub we saw, the Red Lion, which is right across the street from the Avebury stone circles. No surprise, it was VERY CROWDED. It took almost 20 minutes of queuing at the bar to get a couple of beers. Food took another 45 minutes. Too be fair, the food was quite good but for our "default" location we'd prefer a spot that is not a big tourist attraction!
Any thoughts?
