TZ Throttle Info

Here are some links for TZ throttles and parts. These are excellent quick and longer pull two cable throttles for bigger Dellorto or Mikuni type carbs. May have too long a pull for regular Amals.

and for the TZ (2 bolt) brake and clutch levers, I have those as well as the complete front 4LS brakes and all its parts including the cable splitter.

I use Tommaselli clutch levers which were used on earlier Ducatis and Lockheed front brake master cylinders, because the levers are obviously not Japanese. Japanese levers on a British bike are evidence of lack of attention to detail. I tolerate the TZ throttle only because it does it's job so well and it is not conspicuous. If the levers are wrong , they stand out like dog's balls. I know this is probably nit-picking, but when I see a really good authentic restoration, it is a joy to behold.

Have a look at any Featherbed Manx Norton these days - most of them have got Japanese levers. The problem is that most guys don't know what the originals looked like. So every Manx is now a bodged job.

I suspect that most use dog leg levers. And that they do so because they are much, much better.

It would be a strange racer indeed who was happy to forego form over function to this extent !

It was at Mallory, must have been either a 1000Guineas or a Post TT meeting, an international level meeting anyway. The non "Continental Circus" level riders had to have balls welded on the end of their levers due to an FIM ruling. Mostly Manxes, some 7R's not much else back then. Butchery started early.

I have vague recollections being told it was done by Reynolds staff. Perhaps Ken Sprayson himself.

The events were also supported by Avon and Dunlop, have your tyres fitted and balanced free. Shell/BP were occasional event sponsors when it was televised, and dolled out oil and stickers... A couple of spark plug companies supported too - Lodge and KLG?

I must admit, I would not race a bike which did not have ball ended levers. But most of the 50s and 60s British bikes had Dougherty fat levers. The Tomaselli ones are close. Whenever I see a Manx or any other classic British bike with Japanese levers, it always lacks authenticity in my eyes. It is probably just me. I'm not a purist any any means and I've never owned an unmodified bike. But when I see something British which is concoeurs, I really appreciate the nostalgia kick. I also think stainless steel bits on restored bikes is stupid. Would you paint a moustache on the Mona Lisa ?
In the car world, there is a guy from Melbourne who bought a Type 35 C Bugatti replica from Brazil, then spent a motza getting it nut and bolt perfect. It is beautiful to behold, but it makes me wonder. One of the car guys said that replicas devalue the original - would a perfect copy of the Mona Lisa devalue the one hanging in the Louvre ?

Theyre supposed to be set up so theres slack at the full travel , as theres excess hight in the carbs. At least with MONOBLOCKS . Dunno about those cheap concentrics .
