Just checking the dunlop tt100's fitted to my'71. Front one labled 'front' with arrow pointing in correct rotation direction. Rear tyre also labled 'front', but to compensate, the arrow points to backwards travel.

Are these tyres built in fronts & rears ? & what, if anything, should I do about the backward front rear tyre?

They are the same tyre, and I suggest you look on both sides of each tyre as it normally says: "Front Wheel Rotation" with the arrow pointing one way on one side, and on the other side "Rear Wheel Rotation" with the arrow pointing the other way.

So when standing on the *left* side of the machine the front and rear tyres should show correct rotation of the 'front' and 'rear' tyre arrows.

If however it does only say "Front Wheel Rotation" with the arrow pointing the opposite way on the *rear* tyre then that should be OK.

Ah, thanks for that, the arrows are as you say. I found the front back arrow first. Was concerned that perhaps there were front & rear versions of the tt100, but see it's the same tyre. ta

The direction arrow relates to the "overlap" of rubber when the tyres are laid up in the mould. The greatest stress on the front tyre is under braking and on the rear tyre under acceleration. The arrow ensures that the chances of the tyre "unravelling" are minimised.

I have to say that I can't imagine a front tyre delaminating under standard Commando braking loads :)
