Would a twin pull throttle work better with twin Amals on a Commando compared to the splitter type I have. If so please explain why.

If you are looking for the ultimate carb synco replacement, contact madass and get one of his carb gantry One throttle cable ! reasonable cost twin pull throttle.

For the UK T120 the Norton arrangement was used, for the US T120R the twin pull was used. It comes down to bling and bragging rights ;) .

NO. Big time.

I learnt this with my T120 which has a twin pull throttle as standard. For donkeys years I’ve always wondered why on Earth folk whinge about twin carbs going out of synch and blah, blah, because it never seemed to happen to me.

But I have always used a splitter, keeping the carb cables as short as reasonably possible, tying the splitter to something solid (not talking Commandos here) so there’s no stress twixt splitter and carbs, and this always worked perfectly.

The twin cables on the T120 definitely require more frequent adjusting. Just moving the bars side to side pulls on each one different and I guess that’s what causes a gradual imbalance.

It is almost impossible to adjust amals by using the carb top adjusters. I usually make up twin cables with the adjusters up close to the throttle

Really? Are you saying its just diffcult to reach those adjuster or adjustments don't work for you?
I was able to dial in my twin amals via carb top adjusters to get a Carbtune vacuum balance to show quite even flow on each intake runner. Took a fair number of turns to make right, despite having just done the old drill bits/finger feels in throats at full throttle opening etc. Was quite surprised to see the actual vacuum levels so far out via carbtune. Bike runs so much better now.

As Eddie says
If you use a splitter box it has to be in a fixed position

I'd keep the splitter. If anything, I' d switch the Amal single pull throttle grip for a Magura straight pull grip. Those cables hanging off the handlebar and rubbing on the petrol tank always annoyed me.
Why couldn't the brits make something similar to the Magura grip? The germans had straight pull grips before WW2 !! Adjusting the slides with a pull cable strapped to the frame, providing constant tension,
should be very easy.

Hey guys you don’t adjust the carbs with the cable slack adjusters. All the carb adjusters are on the carbs.

But you must use the carb top cable adjusters to set synchronization of the slides. The idle stop and idle air screws have no affect on slide sync.

The throttle stop screws synchronize the slide opening at idle. The cable slack adjusters then are set so that the slides start to open at the same time by adjusting the same slack on both cables.

Yes, that is what I tried to say. I used a carbtune vacuum guage to get the slides in much better air flow sync than I could achieve with just physical opening and max open sync by finger feel or drill bit movements.
