Throttle Cable Junction Q

I think I might've messed up my Throttle cable when I changed the Clutch cable on my '75 850. Revs are sticking @ 2K occasionally so I'm thinking its the throttle cable. When I had the tank off with the clutch I cut some tiewraps and now I think one might've been for the throttle cable junction box. Is that junction box supposed to be fixed to something or loose there under the tank ? Bike idles like a champ but on a ride the revs rise so I suspect the movement of the handlebars is triggering this increase in revs

You just upset the rout your cable was running, got to sit so the cable runs freely and no tight spots, if it was OK before you replaced the clutch cable you just got to remove the tank and have a look, could be caught up somewhere when you put the tank back on.

On mine I had too much external cable clearance an one cable would come half out and get cocked resulting in an off idle miss , I re adjusted the clearance and re synced them with two bits of wire under the slides.. cheers

A twin-cable twist-grip is always better than a junction box. If you wind the throttle open and let go of it, you should only hear one click when both slides hit bottom. There should be no friction in the cables. If a cable hangs-up as you brake for a corner, it can be fun.

Absolutely the opposite !

Especially on a road bike with big handle bars and a decent steering lock availability, this constant pulling of the cables means that twin cables get pulled out of synch very quickly.

Cables from carb to splitter should be kept as short as possible, then with only one cable to the twist-grip, things will stay in synch much longer.

Cables do take more setting up with a splitter though, care is needed to ensure the inner and outer lengths are such that the slides fully open and close. Not all “off the shelf” cables ensure this.

Personally I prefer the splitter to be cable tied to the frame with only the single cable moving about
And although not directly related my trident has mikunis and a triple splitter box
This is cable tied to the frame and the 3 outer cables are glued into the splitter box
This was a game changer
Others will have a different opinion I'm sure
