Was browsing Ebay a couple weeks ago looking for some turn signals. Ran across these, but they were pretty expensive.... $2.32 with $1.18 shipping, for a grand total of $3.50 including international shipping from China. I didn't really plan on using them... for that price I expected them to be pieces of crap, but I figured I could afford to lose 3.50. Surprisingly, these are really pretty nice. I wanted something kind of compact like this anyway. Makes you wonder about Chinese slave labor... that some Chinese guy was able to make these things, put bulbs in them and ship them 10,000 miles across the world for $3.50 and still make a profit.

Turn signals

You assume they make a profit from the turn signals, they most likely make a lot of money with drugs and use that as a front

PS Each turn signal must cost less than a dollar, so they make plenty, but they have sell lots and lots of them. These are probably used on domestic copies of Honda Cubs, e-bay sales are just icing on the cake, could even be rejects they are selling on the side instead of crushing them.

A friend imports electronic gear from China. He says they typically have a small profit margin and rely on a large turnover. Works fine until there's a recession...

I try to not knowingly buy stuff from China....I search for a American or European product even if it costs more. There are some items that you have to get from China because there isn't an alternative but the quality of their products is generally sub-standard IMHO.

I gave up on not buying items from China a long time ago. It is what it is. The U.S. has gotten out of the manufacturing business. Used to be you had a choice... you could walk into Menards and buy a quality tool from a U.S. manufacturer for five dollars, or a cheap lesser quality tool from China for $2.50. Now ten years later, the quality tool is gone from the shelf and the cheap Chinese tool is $7.00.

About two years ago I was on a boat in MD and needed a small (jewelers-size) screwdriver set. I went up to the hardware store and found they had two sets, one made in the USA (or so it said on the package) and the other was made in China. So I bought the USA set. Took it back to the boat and the tip broke immediately on the screw in question. Went back to the store, bought the M i C set. Worked perfectly with no issues at all.

But I have found that it's all totally inconsistent. I have a heavy bench vise from China that I've had for years and it's been great; OTOH, a few weeks ago I bought some small Chinese ball bearings to restore an old Ampex studio tape transport and the new bearings caused more noise/vibration then the original bearings which had been in the motor since 1962.

The Chinese make some excellent stuff - heck, a Chinese-made violin took 1st prize at an international makers competition a couple of years ago that included the best makers from all over the world. They also make really cheap, crappy violins. Nobody complains about the quality of materials/construction of Apple products - all made in China. I guess as with anything, it's all about the price point/level of quality control. Back when most stuff used in the USA was made in the USA, we had good quality stuff and poor quality stuff...if you needed/wanted the good stuff, you paid more for it.

There you go! There's a false compartment in those lights packed with drugs! Seriously though think of the good karma flowing because of the close relationship between the Lucas tail light and the Chinese turn signals. Lighting up the night in partnership. :)

Yeah, on top of it there's a couple grams of heroin packed in there. So for $3.50 they give you the turn signals, bulbs, international shipping and $200 worth of heroin. You just don't find deals like that here in the U.S. By the way... I don't normally do heroin so if any of you are interested, I'll let this shit go cheap.
