Opening race of 2016, Saturday,04 June.
Dave Johnson finished in 7th place on the Aprillia engined Norton SG5.
For those interested, follow the races by logging in to IOMTT.com, then from the opening screen select TT Live launch Now, and after entering email address and name, you are presented with a race progress screen. An accompanying commentary is also available via Manx Radio.

Thats a great result! They must be delighted with that. Even was faster than Hondas Moto Gp Bike.
Dunlop is on form though smashing the top speed and lap time records.

Norton's TT racer has an Aprilia RSV4 engine, of course its not the first time Norton have bought outside engines in to race with, they won their first TT for twin cylinders with a Peugeot engine so any criticism is sour grapes IMHO and I am no fan of Garner.

Word is its Aprilia cases but most of the insides are custom.

We are at the TT and the Norton looks and sounds impressive. I'm no fan of Garner either but credit where credit is due.
Michel Dunlop's fastest lap in the superbike race was stunning. Less than 17 minutes to cover 37.7 miles on ordinary roads!

We’ve worked with Aprilia, we’ve worked with Paul Bird Motorsport on how those lads have been able to make that bike work at MotoGP level and what they’ve done to that bike in terms of engine mods, airbox, air intakes etc.

So they are working woth Aprilia and the Aprilia supported team racing the same engine in MotoGp. So it is different internals but still Aprilia in the same way a Honda engine is modified for MotoGP.

Smelling Garners BS again.

My "quote" was just a rumor. Not crediting it for validity. If you always smell BS you may want to check your shoes.

I can't believe the amount of dribbling about the Norton racing effort.
Surely it's better for them to be there and competing, rather than standing on the sidelines whining??

Good on them I say, and the best of luck to their efforts.

cheers

Surely it would be better for them if they were selling a bike that at least RESEMBLED the bike they are racing.

...and why AREN'T they?

Its not a requirement.

Wasn't referring to racing requirements, but rather publicity for the only bikes they are currently selling.

Being there gets all the publicity they want. Its not the bike its the brand. Just like the Victory entry at Pikes Peak.

Maybe they worked out that the 961 Commando isn't suitable for racing?? Imagine the publicity they would get with a 961 rumbling around in last place.............
cheers

Refer to a previous reply: Why isn't Norton offering another new model, replica of the TT race bike? Don't they have everything they need, including a RACE-PROVEN basis machine? Seems like a no-brainer.

Maybe we're all in the dark, and they'll announce an upcoming release right after the Isle Of Man race is done...
