Well at least designed in its Mother land...They say money makes the world go round...manufacturing off shore in a recession will not help England's economy...ultimately the ball is in Triumph's court.
 
Steel is important when manufacturing motorcycles. I have always had doubts about the metallurgy used in engines made in India or China. With two-stroke and four cylinder four-stroke engines, the internals get less of a beating. Even so, I think the Japanese have better steel than many other nations. I know in Australia, the steel for the Sydney Harbour Bridge was fully imported from the UK. Our Comsteel 4130 cannot be used for making gun barrels - it is too dirty. Most of the steel made in Australia is used as girders in the building industry - so is not as critical.
 
We had a tower crane blow down in Hurricane Dorian few yrs ago in Halifax , caused a lot of grief for many folks …. investigation results said , blow down result of metal fatigue …. you sure bout dirty steel in buildings ……

Manganese inclusions, I worked on set limits for the level of inclusions for sheet steel used in shell bearings. Hidden under the surface they erupt under stress and cause premature bearing failure, also specced at low levels in rolling element bearings where one just under the ball or roller raceway will cause premature bearing failure.

If you asked the question on inclusion levels and got a quizzical look then you turned around and found another supplier.

Don't Japan buy our scrap steel and has done so before the war, the Menheno wreak on Frazer Island was being towed to Japan before the war, lucky it stranded on Frazer as it could have been cut up for war, and a few of our old war ships were sold to Japan for scrap, Sims Metal exports all their scrap to Japan and we buy it back in new cars etc, China can't get enough of our iron ore and most of our steel manufactures have sold out or moved OS.
 
You are being short sighted. Moving all heavy industry off shore preserves a clean environment and a longer better life for the average citizen. So longer term we winning. All the things we are interested in today will not even be remembered in The City of the Future.
 
I try and focus on here & now , with a quick glimpse on future … not sure I like what I see ahead , I do enjoy occasionally looking back on the “good old days” though ….

Low quality junk. Going in a customers machine originally equipped with Japanese NSK's.

Three and a half THOUSANDTHS thinner than the same number NSK's. I know, "nominal" & all, but a horrid waste of time (=money) to remachine the the bearing caps for proper preload.
